Mini gastric bypass anyone?

Recommended Posts

I also read a report (can't find it right now, like weegie I'm suffering information overload) that what makes bile reflux the most dangerous is when symptoms don't present themselves. I don't remember if it had to do specifically with MGB or not, but either way. If you have bile backing up for years without knowing it, your chances for esophageal cancer goes up dramatically.

I don't know if this extra "stitch" procedure actually prevents bile from backing up, or maybe it covers the symptoms. If anyone finds any info on this please post it in this thread.

Form what I read it prevents it but Iv also read conflicting reports about the risks of cancer, some say it does not reduce the chances.

Oh God @@Soonerjoseph! If you find that report, I would be most appreciative because I would LOVE to read it! That is exactly what my new doctor told me and why he rather do the surgery sooner rather than later - bile reflux is most dangerous when it is silent! According to him, it becomes a time bomb. After seeing my endoscopy results he was truly surprised I have no symptoms, as the damage appears significant. Please, please, please if you do happen to find it, please send me the link. THANK YOU!

I have had a persistent cough for 18 months. After over a year of chest xrays, blood tests and breathing tests they now think I have silent reflux. My band has been ignored by the medical professionals involved. Part of my research has me seeing recommendations that MGB is the best op for reflux.

Now my head is seriously all over the place :(

Wow that is unfortunate you had to go through all that ! I swear to you that would have been my first suspicion if you had posted on here that you had the cough, I can't believe it took your doctors a year to figure it out. Though I have actually worked in the bariatric surgery field for over 6 years so Iv seen that quite a bit. Yes Iv also read MGB is a cure for that but just today I watched a video in which Dr. Rutledge said that it is not necessary to fix a hiatal hernia if doing a MGB and any surgeon who says it is, is not experienced with the procedure.

I did look online and in other forums, everyone talks about night reflux. They are aware of it. I had absolutely no problem at night though I have slept with 3 pillows since my band. I start to cough when I wake and it goes on all day. I guess because I had a history of asthma pre banding they started off looking at that. My husband was very worried as we lost 2 close friends to lung cancer so even he thought it was unrelated to my band. It feels like it has been a long road.

You will feel so much better having it removed ! I loved mine and never even realized how it was affecting me until it was gone. I can tell you even though I'm gaining weight I still know I'm much healthier than I was with the band and I definitely don't miss PBs, sliming, back and shoulder pain and feeling stuck for hours after every meal !

@@Band07 Yes I have felt tHe same way and have defended my band even when its misbehaved. Now I am starting to hate the fact it is in there. I really wish I did not have to wait until June. Had a dreadful night, was coughing a lot before I went go sleep and at one point coughed so hard it felt like my port had flipped. Such a sharp, deep, cramp like pain it took my breath away. Just another crappy side effect making me miserable. I am also starting to dread what my surgeon will find on the day of my op, Praying hard here that it isnt too bad for the bypass to go ahead.

Wow 15 years! I'm having a revision from sleeve to MGB on 4/23. How have you done ? Any regrets ?

I have long been a fan of the MGB, but had no insurance that would cover it. My dr. told me that after the Sleeve, nothing else could be done. How is it that you can revise to the MGB?

The first part of the MGB is actually the sleeve, they just do the second part which is the bypass. You can revise to anything from the sleeve so I'm not sure why your surgeon would say such a thing, from the sleeve you can revise to rny, MGB, DS and even a lapband if you want.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
