Hi there all,

I'm just curious if anyone else is experiencing or has experienced a weight loss stall at week 3 post op. My initial surgery (3/16) weigh in was 245, I lost 23 lbs, now I'm suddenly yo-yoing between 224-226 for the past week. I did start soft foods, I am noticing more thirst as I eat, I am carefully watching sodium, fat, carb intake. Still meeting Fluid requirements, Protein intake is usually between 50-60g (this is normal accordingly to my NUT as I was struggling to get anywhere near 40 at first.)

I'm also ovulating this week, and typically speaking I would gain a pound or two during this cycle phase.

Will it pick up again? I'm a bit worried as I was told new food introductions will take time to adjust but still, really nervous. Thanks!

Search "The Dreaded 3 Week Stall" either on Google or this forum. VERY common, happens to most. Your body is just taking a break. Keep drinking your fluids, getting your Protein and move a little and it will pass. Might be your first, won't be your last :)

I am 5 weeks post-op.

@@Hertsukfem31 It sounds like from what you are saying, "I'm suddenly yo-yoing between 224-226 for the past week," that you are weighing yourself every day. I don't think you are in a stall. When you start eating solid food your weight, for some reason starts to slow down. You will probably start losing 2-3 pounds per week for a couple of weeks.

I would suggest you get your Protein up to 70 mg or higher.

Very normal-- you are probably losing fat, just "restocking water"! That 3-week stall article on here explains it really well.

Alright, I'll try to be more patient with myself! Thanks all :)

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
