Need advice, new to site-Self pay all up front?

Recommended Posts

This may be a dumb question, but if you opt to pay for your surgery yourself, do most places require you to pay the entire amount up front before they'll perform the surgery?

I have Anthem BCBS, they give me a hard time approving my birth control (ridiculous) so I feel like they are going to reject me for this surgery no matter how many hoops I jump through. I'm trying to figure out plan B just in case. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Yes, I believe all of them require payment in full up front. Mine definitely did. In fact I believe it had to be paid in full by 2 weeks before the date of surgery.

Same here. Had to pay in full before my pre-op appointment (roughly 2 weeks before surgery).

I have to pay the surgeon, anesthesiologist, and put a $7500 deposit at the hospital all up front. Due at the latest 7 days before the surgery.

Yes. I also had to have a cashiers check ready 2 weeks before operation. Seems typical

Where can I find a facility to perform a sleeve procedure for under 12K? I found a place in LA for under 10K and a place in ATL for under 12K I just wanted more options. I live in MD.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
