Gastric Sleeve 24 hours ago...? stomach/esophageal spasms

Gastric sleeve 24 hours ago. Feeling really good except unable to drink anything without a "spasm" like pain when the sip of anything reached the stomach. Is this normal? It doesn't matter what I sip...warm broth, Water, juice...everything uncomfortable. Trying too hard? worried about dehydration...

Try ice chips, let them melt on your tongue. Don't worry about any thing else but walking and the ice chips. Everything else will come in time. I had issues not with the pain but with the iv meds.

  • Thanks everyone. I phoned my doctor. Picking up sublingual levsin for the spasms and phenergan in case nausea develops....hope this helps. Is better when I walk and sip Popsicles....

  • Little better each day. Still having spasms with just about every swallow but much less painful each day....

Are yall feeling the pain like in your chest? Every time I take a drink I get a tight feeling in my chest and it'll do it a few times then it's gone till I sip again. I had band removed and sleeved 6/12/15.

That's where my pain mostly was. I found that if I drank lukewarm drinks it didn't hurt as much... And yes the bad spasms would get better after a few sips. It only lasted a couple weeks for me and got better each day after that.

Yup the doctor said it was from the hernia repair swelling. He put me on the sublingual tablets as well, and they do help. I get more in when I take them. it's gradually getting better (day 6 post op) but I still need the tablets or I don't get enough fluids in. Sucks. But it should get better.
