I am 2 weeks today. First couple days hurt but each day afterward gets easier. I couldn't really drink either..felt like I woukd explode..but I didn't...just dont get dehydrated. Try your best to walk because this truly is what is going to make you feel better...I have 2 dogs so had no choice but to walk and in hindsight I am thankful I did. But even up til about day 8-9, every time I drank, whether it was Water, Protein drink, warm boullion, or crystal light my belly would spasm for a few seconds..but my dr assured me this was normal and just from the swelling still. It has passed, my incisions are healed, I've lost 19 pounds, I'm walking close to 3 miles a day, my clothes are getting looser, and best of all I can start yogurt and strained Soup today.

It will get better for you...if you don't have nausea meds, call your dr. And hang in there, you just had major surgery..don't have regrets!

Hang in there! I'm 10 days post op. Fortunately for me, my po has been quite easy. I have never had nausea or any issues with pain or getting my fluids in. Take one day at a time ☺

Thanks everyone! Morning of day three and I feel much better. I've watered down the Isopure (which I hate by itself) and plan to walk around the block. I had a horrible headache last night but I just kept sipping Water and it seemed to get better. Going to go off pain meds completely and hope each day brings more and more health! Since I started the pre-op liquid diet on 3/22, I've lost 11 pounds. Geez!

Mine was yesterday and let me say miserable isn't even a word for this. The pain is out of this world. I try to get up and walk and feel my insides shifting and get nauseous. I pray this gets better, I'm seriously second guessing myself lol.

This is the stage I'm at today. Did I do the right thing?! What if I feel like this forever, is it really worth it?! Then I realize, making myself crazy on top of feeling like this will now help. It's not like we can actually undo this surgery. It's done! Now I have to work on getting in some sips, walking some steps lol and rest! We can do this thing!!

@@Skinny Steps

I know the feeling. I was saying in the hospital room "I made a huge mistake". Now I am 18 days out and feel completely normal now. I have little moments where my stomach spasams but that is going away. I promise you will feel better soon. The first week was just "YUCK"

Ask your Dr for the patch you put behind your ear, it takes away the nausea and allow you to get your Fluid down. I had my surgery Wed late afternoon, so I am two day out. I learned two important lessons yesterday

Keep up on you pain meds and take lots of small sips, large ones become uncomfortable.

:D

It will get better.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
