Problems with my Revision from the Sleeve to Bypass

Recommended Posts

I had the gastric sleeve 5 years ago and due to acid reflux and my esophagus collapsing I had to have a revision to the bypass which was 14 months ago (1/22/14). I had my surgery at Forest Park Medical Center in Dallas, TX Dr. Rodriguez (who isn't with Barker Bariatric anymore he opened his own practice and moved to San Antonio). I'm a 105lbs now and want to stop losing weight. I have been having issues since I had the revision. I just had a pick line(feeding tube) in that I gained 20lbs and 3 weeks later it's gone. At first it was diarrhea and now its vomiting. I seemed to can't get a break and it didn't start until about 6 months after the surgery. I felt great with the pick line in but that is dangerous walking around with a IV in your arm feeding you dripping over your heart. I just had my 3 EDG on Monday and they found nothing again. I had to spend another $300 for that. I am trying to stay positive but this is getting very hard and expensive. Needing someone to talk to.

I don't have any insight to add, but I just wanted to say hello and welcome.

I'm so sorry that you have had such a tough time with your surgery. Hopefully others will jump in here, too.

Just wanted you to know how sorry I am that you are having problems. I had mine done by Barker Bariatrics this past June and have not had any problems. The only time I am nauseated is when I eat too fast or too much. I am a revision but I am a slow loser.....I contribute it to my age. I will be praying for you and that your will regain a healthy life and have a fantastic happy future.

Wow...you've been thru a lot! I'm having a conversion from sleeve to bypass in May due to reflux and a narrowing in my mid-stomach (dilation didn't work). In addition, I have an unspecified motility disorder which they feel may be from my esophageal muscles getting too tired from having to deal with the reflux. There is a question of which came first "the chicken or the egg."

Feels like food gets stuck and I need to vomit. I'm on way too much medication. Anyway, I consulted with several Dr's and all say the same thing - that I need a conversion. I am already at a normal weight and cannot really afford to lose anymore but they tell me not to worry...that my body will lose at first but go back to my present weight. I'm afraid to have it done, but the situation is not tolerable for the rest of my life. I had my sleeve done 4 yrs ago and keep thinking I'll get better but I've finally accepted that it won't. I pray I won't have any complications with the bypass. I'm sorry you are having complications and have to deal with them after having problems with your sleeve...double whammy! I hope you are getting better and better everyday. I would love to get updates on how you are coming along. Godspeed.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
