How long did you take off work? If so do you feel you have a normal life when you have recovered?

I am 3 weeks post op, I took a week and a half off work and when I went back, however, I am a secretary and do not do any lifting, after my time off I started my exercise again and try to get in my 3 miles a day walking, that is the greatest feeling to walk and feel so good after. Just dont ask about my food intake.... :(

I took 2 weeks off work. It was definitely rough for me going back. I was very very fatigued. It was a challenge making it through the day and I just have a desk job! Things got much better once I was allowed solid foods and started getting my calorie intake up.

Recovery is highly individual and is affected by age and general health. I took two weeks off from my desk job, but found my first couple of weeks back at work very difficult. Once I was allowed puréed foods (my surgeon's program was very conservative), my stamina and concentration improved.

Is there any way you could have went back to work after 4 days? I am 45 years old and can form my job into office hours with very light movement

I am a big baby, let me say that first. LOL And I thought my recovery would be horrible. I hate pain and hate being uncomfortable. I am not a very good patient. ;) But my recovery went great with barely no pain, for that I was grateful!

I only work part time (2-3 days a week) and I took 5 weeks off. With my job I could have went back after 3 weeks, but it was nice to have the additional 2 weeks off. I was into a routine and felt really good when I went back.

I truly believe if you can afford to take what time you can. Your healing is so important in the beginning you really shouldn't push yourself if you don't have to. In the beginning it's sometimes tough mentally that you don't need the added pressure of working and pushing yourself.

Good luck!!!

@@titan05, I don't know about others but I had no strong pain meds at home but the gas....ouch, I think I felt really good at 1 week and 1 day because the gas is in the abdominal cavity so it just has to reabsorb and getting enough sleep was hard at first.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
