9 days post op PAIN with hunger

Recommended Posts

I was just advanced to puréed foods yesterday and have been doing great. My problem is hubby and I went out for a while tonight and I allowed myself tongi too long between meals (6 1/2 hours) and I got HUNGRY. Along with this hunger came SEVERE PAIN. Not just hunger pains but tear jerking PAIN. I have now eaten a little bit and am doing some better but has this ever happened to anyone because this is scary. This was like right after surgery pain

I right after surgery, I would get stabbing pains instead of hunger pangs. Really painful ones, over time, the hunger pain became milder and milder. Still, 2 years later, I don't feel hunger in the same way as pre-surgery. I get these mild stabbing pains, nothing really painful, just a reminder that I've gone too long between meals.

Thank you SO MUCH!!! My husband was ready to take me to the emergency room. I literally had tears rolling down my cheeks. Used to be prior surgery I didn't get hunger pangs until I was WAY PAST hungry and by then I was NASTY. Note to self...........don't go too long between meals.

I also have hunger pains, to where I must eat every 3-4 hours, the first week post op I was waking at night staving and would eat. Two weeks out today, I sleep all night but still need to eat as soon as I wake. When most people here say there never hungry and must remember to eat.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
