A glimmer of hope

Alexandra,

I too lost my band due to slippage. I have been contemplating being re-banded next month but I do not know if I should be looking into a different band than the one I had originally. Should this be a concern, or should i just let the surgeon do his thing? I am trying to make sure this does not happen again, and if there is anything I need to research before I do it, I am ready to make informed decisions! Have you had to reconsider a different band? If anyone knows about being re-banded, I would love to hear your comments!

P.S. I have re-gained 20 pounds after the band was removed.......:)

Thanks to all! :)

Hi Mrs. P--

I brought this question up with my doctor when we first started talking about it. My band had, I thought, always been tight, with fills being given in tiny increments. I'd also been sensitive to allergies, with hay fever making my band almost unbearably tight from time to time. So when it came time to ask I brought this up, and my doctor immediately mentioned the new AP band.

I'm not qualified to make the decision, so I'm letting my doctor make it. I think as long as he knows all the information I can possibly give him, he'll make the right choice for me.

Good luck!!

Alexandra,

Thanks for the reply! My surgeon mentioned the Vanguard band, but then said it would all depend on how much fat is in the stomach area when he does the surgery.......I don't want to end up with whatever is in the OR at at the time! I have learned all too hard that most of this has to be researched on my own, so I am trying to make sure I find out as much as I can before I do this for the last time.....thanks again!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
