lap band as out patient

Recommended Posts

Hey they are planning to do my band as an outpatient. Have any of you got to go home a few hours after the procedure?

Both me and DH did. I think I was home and in bed about 5 hours after we left the house. I really liked that, my own bed and TV and cats. You do need someone with you for a while, I think they said at least 24 hours.

I went home not long after I woke up, had to walk and pee and they let me go. I walked out and didnt even use a wheelchair. The next day I felt like I had been run over but was at home on the couch and did fine.

I would have loved to have been home, I slept of the anaethetic all day (was done at 8.30 in the morning) and then prowled my room all night, couldnt sleep. I was mobile enough to get up and down and walk (slowly) so I could have put on a DVD, been on the computer or filled in those endless nighttime hours some way more pleasant than being stuck in a hospital room.

I walked in the surgery center at 6:30 am and walked out at 11:30 am. Be sure you have some gasx at home and someone to fill your pain meds for you. Go home and get in bed....I slept the rest of the day and night. It was great!

I too had my surgery on an out-patient basis. Went under at around noon and was home by five. I watched tv and slept and took my pain meds!!! It was wonderful to be in my own bed with my husband waiting on me hand and foot!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
