Should I be able to feel Port outside skin?

Recommended Posts

Hello All:

I just recently have been able to feel my port on the outside of my body, like I feel the hard lump where it is...is that normal? I haven't noticed it until recently and its a little sore I assume, where I have been poking at it :guess! Can anyone else feel their's? Your input is appreciated!

Jennifer

You should be able to feel it. I feel my all the time~~not to the point it gets sore so you may want to stop that part. I have been banded for almost 8mths in the beginning I touched the port all the time, now I don't seem to do it as much. It does feel odd though. I even let other people touch it because as soon as you say you have a port they go ewww. I inform them it's under my skin, duh!!

I can feel my port. But I am at my goal weight (under it actually) and I have had a Tummy Tuck, so the skin is stretched over it, and there is little in the way of fat on top of it.

Before getting to goal, the only way I could feel my port was to lay down, and poke my belly. And I was quite sore after the fact.

Perhaps your surgeon placed your port closer to the skin for easy access for fills?

I can feel my port also. In fact my fill doctor asked if I could feel it. It makes it easier to fill if you can feel it. I poked at mine a bit also. I think out of fascination.

I can feel mine, I think it is cool. So does everyone else. Before they used to enjoy rubbing my bald head, now they like feeling my port. My wife and 18 month old son also have a facination with it. Some people think it is weird though, but I explain that some people need a pacemaker to help thier heart beat, I need a port to keep me from being fat!

I can feel mine, but it doesn't stick out or anything. I actually like to feel mine because I can tell it is straight up just like it is supposed to be.

I can feel mine easily now and I can also see it. Its not something you'd notice if you didnt know it was there kind of sticking out but if you know to look you can see it.

I have always been able to feel mine. It is under my boobs in the centre of my torso. I find myself poking at it while watching TV.

I felt mine the first time about two weeks after surgery....... its not where I thought it was, so I was suprised......... I think it is cool.. if it ever gets to the point that it is scaring small children I will have a low profile port installed in its place.

When I first felt my port it was during a coughing attack. I was trying to hold my incisions in place and there it was. It scared me because at the time I didnt know what it was. I thought that the port would be under one of the seri stripes. Closer to an incision, not almost under my boob. I felt really embarressed when I called the nurse to tell her of the hard lump in my stomach:embarassed:

Usually unless you are a very low BMI the lump you are feeling is scar tissue near the port incision. It will typically go away after a few weeks and as you lose weight you will be able to feel your port more and more vs. scar tissue.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
