How did you determine your "goal weight"?

Recommended Posts

@@Selena I am just starting my wls journey. I was sleeved on 1/20/15. I lost almost 30lbs pre surgery so thought I could get to 120. So far have been losing slower than I'd like but not exercising alot until after 6 weeks which is next Tuesday. Then will swim and do Zumba and everything I can. I would be good with 130, but we'll see. Hoping for 120. It's up to me to get there. Idk about excess skin or if I'll have plastic surgery. I will have a tummy issue after weight loss is done but depending on how my body responds to exercise. .well I'll cross that bridge then. Hope this helps. Thanks!

Before the surgery my doctor gave me 110 lbs as my goal weight (by calculating the BMI) after meeting with him today after 7 months post-op he changed my goal to 125 lbs which surprised me. He said because my body size already looks "normal" if I can lose 11-16 lbs, my BMI will be 25 which should be ok. He doesn't want me to be too skinny which may cause me sickness.

Funny visual there, with the bobble head ;)

I was reading a gossip mag one time last year and there was a typical two-page spread of chicks on the red carpet. My then-6yo daughter said "Look, bobbleheads! Why are they like that?"

I'm 5'8" and set my own goal for 155. For me thats a size 12 or so. I asked my surgeon and he said we should wait and discuss further along. I'm glad to see some logical n umbers out there! I agree with the prior posters that there are differences that bmi doesn't account for. My arm span is fully six feet,I'm like a monkey. My hands are bigger than those of my 6 ft tall husband. My wrist is 7.5. I'm losing really slowly and I'm ok with that so long as it doesn't stop. The stalls are so stressful. But today I'm at a weight I haven't seen since 2005. Bit by bit by bit. I am not exercising yet, not until my IV line comes out and I hope that when I can it will jump the loss a little bit.

My doctor asked me at what weight I've been happy which was a 6 month period at age 18 where I was 180 and a toned size 11/12. I'm 25 lbs away from my goal and guess what??? That 180 lbs now is gonna look way different than it did back then. I will be lucky to be a size 16 at that weight now. Guess my body changed more than I ought from age and having kids. I always pictured my body the way it was but I'll have a new realization if I make it there.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
