Organize pre-op, be flexible post-op

Recommended Posts

This has been shared before, but just wanted to share my experience. I am a planner and like to have things organized. I had the lists of things I'd need post-op and wanted to be organized so I didn't have to run around trying to get things. I had the Protein shakes I love all lined up. The Protein supplement I liked and the broth I liked. Vitamins, etc.

One thing I learned very quickly is both your tastes and what your stomach can handle can be very different after surgery. I LOVED Premiere Protein Shakes before surgery and naively thought it would be easy to get my protein in - just 3 wonderful shakes a day. After surgery, I gag just thinking about drinking one.

After forcing down RTD Protein Shakes for the first 2 days, I knew I had to find something different. Unflavored protein in Jello - hit. Unflavored protein in Gatorade - hit. Making my own shakes with soy milk - hit. Drinking room temp Water (which I used to hate) instead of cold - hit.

I had read enough about "your tastes may change and your stomach may not be able to handle the same things" to not have bought 60 days worth of stuff. But it was kind of a shock when my pre-op plans weren't working.

All that to say - be flexible post-op. Yes plan ahead, but if something isn't working, try something else. I'd definitely recommend having some unflavored Protein powder that you can add to a variety of things handy.

Great info I have two big containers of unflavored Protein waiting for me after surgery. I have stocked up on frozen berries and bananas to make my bariatric smoothies with. Nothing else in the house.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
