Hey all,

I'm pre op and preparing for my post op recovery. What Vitamins do you take daily and in what form (pill, liquid, chewables). I'll check with my NUT too.

For the first four weeks post-op, I took:

--Wellesse liquid multi-Vitamin, double dose

--Wellesse liquid Calcium, 1 tablespoon 3x per day

--Wellesse liquid Iron, 1x per day

--gel capsule of Vitamin D supplement

--sublingual B12

After four weeks, I switched to Trader Joe's High Potency chewable Multi-Vitamin, 2x per day; generic Iron supplement in a coated tablet, and B12 cut back to 2x per week rather than every day. I kept the Calcium and Vitamin D the same and added in a daily K2 supplement (gel capsule, like Vitamin D).

I have some friends that are fellow-sleevers that were advised by their surgeons and nutritionists not to take pills ever again. I take a B Complex and a multi-Vitamin everyday, in pill form.

Your surgeon will advise you on the pill issue. I can't stand chewables so I'm more than happy to take a pill.

I received a prescription from my nutritionist (via the surgeon) which costs me $25/month for Nascobal (nasal b-12 inhaler). It comes with the following for "free":

BariActiv Multi Vitamin (60 pills)

BariActiv Iron+Vitamin C (90 pills)

BariActiv Calcium+D3 & Magnesium (120 pills)

Each is a 30-day supply, so that works out to 2 Multivitamins, 3 Iron, and 4 Calcium per day.

They really make me feel ill, though, as I'm having a lot of trouble with their taste and consistency (they're all smooth-dissolving tablets). Before this, my wife found generic Flintstones and I had small swallowable pills (smaller than a dime, so ok according to the coordinator).

YMMV, so this might be something to talk to your surgeon about. I'm sure some people are fine with them. I don't consider myself picky at all, but I am really having trouble choking these down and it's only been a week. I'm definitely going to look into other alternatives before month's end.

I take a multi Vitamin Gummy, B12 gummy, hair nails and skin gummys, 3 5000 mcg of Biotin daily and Vitamin C gummies. I usually buy them on Amazon or at Target. My nails have never been so nice. I bleached my hair 1 week ago and its already grown an inch.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
