Waiting for my date and having problems

Recommended Posts

So I started this journey in May 2014 was told I had to lose 30 lbs and is get my date with a lot of determination & phentermine I lost the 30lbs by June. I go back to the drs office and the nurse completely crushed my spirit she told me she didn't remember telling me that and that id need to lose another 30lbs to have surgery. This crushed me I gained the weight back and now I'm stuck I'm back to dieting and the meds and nothing's helping I went back to the dr today and she was like what happened you could have had surgery back in June I'm like in total mental breakdown mode today. I feel like I'm in a rut. Idk what to do I feel like my family is not supportive. And I'm stuck trying to figure out this journey on my own... Help? I need advice how to help myself out of this crap situation...

You lost 30 lbs in a month dieting? That's amazing! Good for you :-)

I guess my question is this, why is the nurse telling you all this stuff and not the dieticians or surgeon? That's weird. I would've demanded to have spoke to the doctor after the weight drop.

I'm fortunate to have 3 huge hospitals within 30 minutes of my house that all offer a bariatric program. Can you look elsewhere maybe?

This is the only hospital in my area that offers the surgery the rest are like 2hrs away. I met with the dr after the nurse crushed my bubble and he was amazing and had a big pow wow with the staff about how they act and things they say to patients. It's just frustrating that I go back in for weigh ins and the nurse plays stupid like what happened you were doing so good and it just makes me wanna cry and punch her in the face lol

It'll get better and I'm so sorry you went through that. One of the nurses in my Dr's office said to me " why are you seeking RNY? why don't you just get the sleeve". She said that b/c I was a light weight for RNY. Another said to me on another visit "Oh Man, you're gonna be super skinny". Both times I felt awful, b/c I have pondering over doing this for years and I would't if it wasn't for my diabetes and HBP. My insurance wouldn't even pay for the sleeve at that time. I've thought to go elsewhere too, but this Dr. has already performed surgery on me when he removed my band and other hospitals are far away. I felt like crying too but just hang in there. Most of us have some sorts of issues going in, whether it's family, fear, or finances. I'm still waiting too!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
