I've gone from head hunger to head guilt

Recommended Posts

I'm fighting with myself these days. I'm being good, not grazing, Protein first, fluids, etc. But I'm struggling with whenever I eat real food, especially food I like, I eat till I'm full (slowly, chewing, no drinking, all the right things), and then I feel guilty.

In my head I KNOW I only ate like 3 oz of food and that's not a lot. But my belly is telling me I'M FULL I'M FULL and my head does a nose dive into guilt world because I put too much food in my stomach. I didn't really eat too much, I just start freaking out and worrying that I'm ruining my stomach.

So, I know I'm doing everything right and I'm steadily losing weight. I just hate that every time I eat I feel guilty afterwards.

Did any of you go through this? I'm 8 weeks out from surgery and down 56 lbs. How long did it take you to stop thinking this way?

I am 8 months out and still have to deal with my behavior. You won't be able to stop immediately what you've probably been doing most of your life so don't be hard on yourself. I ate until I got uncomfortable in the earlier weeks. It still happens to me from time to time but less often than in the beginning months. Also you will be able to eat more later on as the body adjusts to the new changes and swelling, etc is no more. Listen to your body, accept that you will have days were your mind and body wont agree and be kind to yourself. - we are all a work in progress! we need to treat ourselves the way we want others to treat us.

My best,

Lorri

I know what you mean I feel guilty about eating anything sometimes, and I even find myelf thinking , "ill just go back to a few shakes a day instead of food", which as I have been scolded by my nutritionist is a no no. I don't know if everyone goes through this kind of thing, but I certainly understand your feeling as well. Im 5 weeks post surg btw.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
