Horrible cough for 3 months

Recommended Posts

I really need some help or answers if anyone out there has ever experienced this problem. Starting in Oct. I came down with pneumonia, went to Dr. had the usual Zpack, Steriods, Shots, cough pills, plus 3 inhalers, EVERYTHING! In Nov. I am still coughing, my PCP sends me to a lung specialist, she sent me for these breathing tests which I did not do so good, also lung Dr. sent me for MRI's. Tests came back negative with cancer but lung capacity and breathing functions were very very low, not good. Never a smoker so I was not scared about cancer but concerned somewhat since I am having these issues. Ok, she tells me long story short possibly my HBP medication could be making me have this cough so she changed my HBP meds. Still nothing helps with cough, here it is in January I'm still coughing with a very very deep cough like the old croup. My lung Dr., now says she thinks it could be from my lapband?????? So my PCP puts me on Protonix (sp?) for Reflux just in case that is what I'm experiencing she said maybe silent reflux??????????????? Ok, now I've been on that Reflux medication for 2 weeks and I'm still couging no improvement!

Someone mentioned for me to get back to my Lap Band Dr. or go visit a GI Dr. for possible esophagus erosion??????? I was banded in May of 2013 starting weight 202 then lost down 142. I have never had a fill because I was one of those that could not tolerate liquid in my band and was unfilled 2 weeks after surgery. You want to talk about pain that was far worse than any birth I've every gone through.

Can someone please throw some light on this subject for me and tell me if they have ever gone through anything like this, or heard of the band causing a bad cough like this. I do have a appt. this week again with my PCP, next week again with my lung specialist. I guess after what I hear back on here if I need to go to my lap band Dr. or if I call a GI specialist.

HELP please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am miserable and tired of coughing 24/7!!!!

Thank you!

My husband had the same issue with HBP meds and while the cough got better after about 6 months or so, he still has an annoying non-productive cough. He has not had any WLS. He takes photonics too. Sorry to not give you any better news. He has been told he has COPD, and then specialist said not COPD and could not give any other reason for the cough. His cough is worse at night.

Coughing caused by acid reflux is a known side effect of banding. Especially a night time cough. It is very possible to have "silent" reflux which is basically when the acid rises into the oesophagus without us being aware of it,

This can often be sorted out by even a small amount of saline being removed.

If the cough IS being caused by the reflux, saline being removed is important as (worst case scenarios here, not usual outcomes!) acid reflux can cause damage to the oesophagus and even pneumonia caused by inhaling the acid (aspiration pneumonia).

Sorry, can't edit on my iPad. Just to add, had not picked up on the fact you have no saline in your band. So that is not the easy answer I made it sound!!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
