"Eating" during the liquid/mushie stage

Recommended Posts

Okay, I am 3 days post-op and supposed to be on liquid/soft foods now for a month. If all you are having is things like Jello, smoothies, Protein Drinks, cottage cheese, pudding, how do you do the no Fluid before or during eating? Also, it's a little difficult to "watch calories" when there's not that much going in anyway. When you are in mushie/fluids are you supposed to be doing that like you would when you are eating regularly? Doesn't really make sense.

Hey Kaycee!

I was banded on the 22nd, and as far as I understand, the first two weeks on liquid is really for healing... not to disturb the band, let the stitches heal etc. I think the no liquid is for the second stage, though to be honest, I haven't sat down with a drink with my Soup, Jello or smoothie! I guess it's best to break the habit now anyway.

Good luck!!!

The first six weeks is for healing, it is not to focus on weight loss. Any weight loss during the pre fill stage post op is just a bonus..your thoughts should be on healing right now, not countingcalories, the drinking during or after a meal is the rule for once you get filled.

Okay, that's kinda what I thought. I've just been eating whenever I felt like it, pushing myself a little, knowing I needed to get liquids and stuff down to keep strength up, and totally not worrying about making sure it was "three meals" or specific times and amounts.

second day of prescribed liquid diet prior to surgery on May 19th. I am hungry for something solid. This is also making me tired. I don't know if I can keep up with this liquid diet, I want some real food!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
