Waiting on approval and surgery date

Recommended Posts

Hello! I'm Michelle, 43 yrs old, 299 lbs, 5'10.

I started doing everything in October. It doesn't seem like a long time but it feels like a long time. LOL I was on a roll with all of my appointments but then hit a snag with this new primary care doctor. She was so paranoid about writing the referral that I ended up having to go back to my old doctor for it. I got a physical and she wrote the letter. Of course I had to pay for it, but whatever it was done. I faxed it yesterday. I'm really glad I did it this way because I found out I'm pre-diabetic. That scares me. A few family members suffer from diabetes and I don't want any parts of that.

I have to do a sleep study this weekend to rule out sleep apnea but the coordinator at my surgeon's office said that will not stop her from submitting the information to my insurance company. Since I had a colonoscopy, I now know I have a hiatal hernia that he will repair during my surgery. I'm super nervous about that but my favorite saying is, "it is what it is".

It sure is ???? I think I'm giving myself anxiety. I will feel so much better after I get a response from insurance so we can get this thing moving.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
