My First Upset Stomach Episode

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

I am Day 6 Post-Op and have been doing great. I had a small bowl of Grits for Breakfast and must have had one too many bites. My stomach is hurting and I feel like I am going to throw up. Tried walking and that doesn't help. Can't lay down, it makes it worse. So what is a person to do? Just wait it out? Should I try to drink some Water?

Sherry

Remember the 30 min rule ...no Fluid 30 min before or after eating. Eat slowly, that way you'll prevent yourself from over eating.

I wonder if the grits may have to much texture for you this soon in the game? I wasn't allowed anything like that until the pureed stage. Hope you feel better, soon!

My rules included to measure everything out and never eat the last bite. However, anytime Miss Tummy disagrees with what I have eaten, she will either give it back or make me miserable for at least four hours.

Miss Mac, what were the measurements you were given? My nutritionist didn't give me any idea of how much to try & eat, and since I've started purées, it's been a miserable trial and error process. Sometimes it's the right amount and others, I make myself sick. :(

I was told 2 to 4 oz, stop when you're not hungry.

I was also told that Fluid was allowed as long as I included it in the 2 to 4 oz.

I couldn't do grits till 2 weeks out, though. I still don't know that I would try them at a month.

On my Full liquid Diet I am allowed Grits, Cream of Wheat, Rice, and Fara. But don't think I will have them again for a while. I think I was doind mind-less eating with too many distractions interrupting my Breakfast. Probably was not eating slow enough or listening to my Stomach. Lesson learned.

Usually it takes about 45 minutes to an hour to pass and then you'll feel good again.

You're right, pinkbunies. That's just about how long it took me to get over it. My first experience, but I am sure it won't be my last!

I love grits but I haven't tried them yet. When I was allowed to have them I didn't because it wasn't enough Protein. I'm vegetarian so I have to make my meals count.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
