Hi friends!

I have a couple questions for the community.

I was sleeved on August 14, 2014, so I'm almost 5 months out and 73lbs down.

I was wondering if anyone else has experienced stiff joints or joint pain after weight loss. My hips are really bothering me(and have been for about a month), they feel stiff and painful. Has anyone experienced this? If so, are there any Vitamins or supplements that you would recommend to combat this? My doctor says it'll go away, but it's really bothering me.

My second question is about cooking! I love to cook; that hasn't diminished since having surgery. Does anyone have any recommendations for healthy cookbooks/blogs about cooking?

Thanks for your help!

Hi! I just received 3 cookbooks I got off of Amazon.com:

-The Bariatric Foodie Holiday Survival Guide

-Eating Well After Weight Loss Surgery

-Weight Loss Surgery Cookbook For Dummies

There were a lot of other options, as well. Just got them yesterday, so I have yet to read them, but I'm liking the last one so far! As far as my hips go, I've always had problems with them, so I don't know what to tell you. Let us know what you find out ok? Good luck to you!

Are you taking Calcium supplements? When is the last time you have your levels checked?

You know, I've been having issues with my hips (mainly the right) as well. I'm 3 months out. It came out of nowhere. Never had an issue with them before hand. I forgot to ask my doctor at the last check up but all my blood work was great.

Hi I'm new to this forum. I came across this post and kind of wanted to see what others say... I too have been getting pain. If I sit and then stand I get a pain but I can walk it off. Never had pain before.. I take my Calcium but just went to my doctor to have my levels checked he said it may be my Vitamin D that is low.. We shall see when the blood work comes back.

I just wonder if you are perhaps taking more exercise or walking more than you used to and that might be the reason for your sore hip.Best wishes.Pippinleicester.

I had surgery Nov 18 but I do have hip pain and wondered if it's from loosing weight and maybe loosing the cushion we used to have. Mine almost feels like more like a shifting pain when I walk for long periods of time. I have not ask my Dr but if it continues I may.

Hi all!

I've been to my doctor, and she wasn't all that helpful.

She said that all of my blood work came back normal, and Calcium is fine. So, if it's still acting up in a month I have to go back and she'll take a look again.

It could possibly be inflammation from weight shifting(or something about adjusting to a new center of gravity)!

I have just recently experienced stiffness in my hands. I googled it and it may be a Vitamin D deficiency so I went to my GP and he checked my levels, all is fine so now we are ruling out RA and other possibilities. But I have started to take more Vitamins and I do feel better!

Yes I have had some hip pain as well. I am 4 months out and it seems to have started about a month or so ago.

I hadn't thought that it might be related to wls. Now I am wondering. Hmmm

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
