Newbie Rant...This waiting game is killing me!

Recommended Posts

I'm new here! I've been lurking around the site for awhile. There's such a wealth of info and support I love it!

I currently don't have a surgery date as of yet. I'm working with INOVA bariatric center in Fair Oaks. So far everything has been ok. I was waiting for my new BCBS of FL to kick in and it has. There is no pre auth needed and all I have to have is an psychiatric eval!!! Dr Moazzez has requested I have an upper GI, meet with their NUT, exercise person, and dietitian. As well as I have to lose 5 lbs. I'm sure I'll manage that with the two week Optifast diet!

I have two appointments left tomorrow for the psyc eval and friday for the upper GI. I hope I'll have a date for surgery tomorrow or at least an appointment to discuss what's next. I'm so anxious! I'm 33yrs old, 5'1 and 238 lbs! My BMI is 43!

Any advice or comments are welcome!!!

The waiting game is without a doubt the toughest time during this entire process. However, use this time wisely to read, research, find recipes, test different Protein sources, etc. You will find yourself much more comfortable with each step of your process, not to mention it will keep your mind occupied. The time will pass quicker than you can image as long as you keep occupied.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
