Friendships and Gastric bypass surgery

Recommended Posts

Husband says if he knew surgery would make me do much nicer hr would have told me yrs ago to have surgery.

That's hilarious. My husband says much the same thing about my motorcycle: he had no idea it would make him so much easier to get along with. ????

Sometimes you outgrow certain friends. I have def grown during this process as a person & I think we all learn things about ourselves as we go thru this & become stronger for it & healthier! I have a friend who I love as a person but have outgrown because we no longer do any of the same things our lives aren't on a similar path. I'm figuring out who I can share this journey with & who I don't need to waste the energy because they will only be negative.

@@leag78 When I tell her about my having surgery, she's gonna have to be on board or be prepared not to see as much of me because now my nutrition isn't just about my weight, it's my whole life.

@@blashlee LOL, she will literally not seeing as much of you! :)

I have told one girlfriend that I am going to go through with this. Other than her and my husband, no one else knows I've made my decision, and only a handful of other people even know I'm considering it. My girlfriend is very athletic so she understands why I want to be healthy and the benefits of having a body that moves the way you like. She's also one of the most compassionate and caring people I've ever met. Her biggest concern is my psychological state after surgery and once I start losing weight. We've talked about my body image issues, and I've told her that I think there will be some unknown things that will come up as I start getting thinner (feeling vulnerable, no longer having my "fat suit" as protection). She thinks I should have a counselor lined up to talk to for the post-op phase, just in case. That was great advice.

Your true friends will only be happy for you and continue to encourage you through your journey. If you have someone in your life who is making you feel bad for the changes that are happening in your life due to the weight loss you should distance yourself from these people. You should be as proud as you can be for making the decision to lead a healthy lifestyle. Don't ever let anyone take that away from you! Good luck with everything!

My weight has changed me for the better I now see people for who they are and people who I thought were friends were not especially my ex BFF who became so envy that she stop talking to me. changed because I wanted to be healthy and i exercise and ate healthy but remain the same person. Thank God I have a husband and family who were supportive. Now my ex BFF wants to be friend again and has gain a lot of weight. I now have new friends that I have met at the gym and I do not have time for silly people who are insecure by others success. If they do not remain your friends through thick and then you do not need them. Good luck.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
