Buttermilk has helped my cravings 4 days post-op

Recommended Posts

The sweet shakes have made me sick and I can't even sip on them anymore. I've been craving meat Protein like crazy. My sleeve still feels swollen and a Popsicle definitely fixes that but the only thing that has tamed that craving for salt and meat is 2oz of very cold butter milk with just a pinch of salt. I only bought a small 2 cup container and after 4oz all my meat and salty cravings are gone. I feel the protein in the buttermilk is actually absorbing because my energy level is off the chart now. I have read that animal protein is absorbed by the body 3X more than vegan. My body just does not work off of fruit and shakes. I'm a meat eater. Buttermilk ice cold also feels good to my sleeve too.

Your a brave lady! I've never had plain buttermilk but my hubs likes it. I have to pour mine over hot cornbread!

Interesting. What made you try that?

Interesting. What made you try that?

I'm a dairy person. I love all kinds of cheeses and creams. Buttermilk is cold and feels good going down (in small portions)

I've just found another meaty beverage that feels good to drink. Carrot Juice! I just finished 4 ounces and my stomach feels great. No sugary junk bringing me down. I went upstairs and noticed my 91 year old mother in law (with perfect vision) drinking her daily glass and I decided to try it. It felt really good on the stomach and gave me the feeling of real food.< /p>

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
