Getting sick when eating.

Recommended Posts

I'm two weeks post op and on soft food stage. I am eating slow. No liquid during meals. Following all the Dr rules but when I eat I start to feel sick.. After eating I stay that way for almost a hour. Any suggestions? I can't puke I've tried. Just spit comes up.

If I were you I would go back to liquid for another week or two. Not everyone progresses at the same rate. Consult your NUT if you're concerned.

Also not sure what kind of foods you're eating on soft but depending on what you are eating that could be making you feel sick. After surgery I became lactose intolerant and couldn't stomach any dairy products. A lot of the stuff I planned on eating during the soft phase contained dairy so this was a bit of a setback. From what I've read in the forums and heard from my dr developing an aversion to dairy is fairly common post op.

pudding still, eggs, tuna, Soups. I'm craving milk though. Which is weird. sugar free pudding is to sweet for me. :-/ juice is even to sweet. I was never told to Water it down though. I just sip slowly.. The bloated feeling is finally going away so it a little easier to eat n drink without feeling full after one small sip or bite. I can now get about 5 small spoons down then in full.

When I have too much sugar, I get a bloaty/nauseous feeling. You listed a few sweet foods, I wonder if that could be it? But it could also be your system isn't quite ready for thicker foods yet. I didn't have as much of a problem but my husband had his surgery 2 yrs ago and he went back to liquids a few times before he was ready to progress.

I'm having the same problem, minus the vomiting. I think I'm trying to advance too quickly. I'm only getting in about 400 calories at the most and the extremely full feeling doesn't go away. I guess that is the purpose of the surgery. Tomorrow I'm back to full liquids so I can get my Water in. Having difficulty getting fluids in due to nausea and my urine is becoming dark. Not good. Full liquids will help with dehydration. Hope you feel better.

Thanks @@Susanfnp13 I'm doing better only problem I have now is baby sips don't help when I feel like I'm dying of thirst and I end up not meaning to but getting a large drink and it makes me have a bunch of extra spit n it comes up in place of the vomit. Ughb but I'm loving my surgery. I'm down 10 pounds since Dec 15. I am ready to do more then walking.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
