Can you ever eat "Normal" food again?

Recommended Posts

I'm 8.5 months out and unfortunately it looks like I can eat anything it want. That for me is a bad thing. I was hoping my pouch would restrict me much longer than this. So know it's up to me. I will not be bringing fudge into the house. I will not stop at the bakery. I will not fall back into the habit of eating out again.

Am 6 months out. Can pretty much eat anything I want and have since the beginning pretty much.

Bacon is still an issue. It just feels like it sits in my stomach like a dead weight.

Just remember to always eat the Protein first and all else if you still have room.

I don't deprive myself of anything. I just follow that rule.

I eat bread, in moderation

I eat biscotti from the local bakery, in moderation

And so on.

I even had desert on thanksgiving and xmas.

For me if I do have carbs I notice a failure to lose weight. Salt is also a killer for me.

But follow the plan and those few days aren't the worst thing in the world. The pounds come back down shortly after the allowances

am down 72 pounds in 6 months

I am so excited to start my new life. Just nervous I'll mess it up. I am a full time single mom of 2 young kids(1with severe adhd and odd). Just hope I can stick to the diet and make separate food for my kids. Wish there were people in the same position or atleast close to it near me. It just would be nice to have that support.

Amy I agree with not going out to eat. Just with my kids it's hard. I can't stop taking them out just cause my diet needs to change. This is my plan:

Well 1st my grandpa died of weight related issues and died at home when my dad was 5. My other grandpa died of weight related issues before I was born. I don't want that for my kids. Don't want to die at home or while they are so young. Yes I want to lose weight to feel better and all but it's more about my kids. I am doing this for them. So I can be a better role model for them and be more active with them.. So back to my plan: When I take them out to eat I will bring a healthy meal for my self. I will take the dogs for longer walks and more often....list goes on. I will need to find healthier vegetarian meals as well.

If anyone has any tips please offer them.

I'm one year out and eat a lot of different things. Just in small amounts. There is still some things I can't have but it's a small price to pay.

I love your plans to be a better role model for your kids! I really regret that I wasn't with mine when they were growing up - we ate a lot of fast food back then and when we would go to regular restaurants, we'd order loads of fattening foods. I wish I had that part to "do over" with them! But I am a little baffled by your plan to take your own healthy meals with you when you take your kids out to eat. Why not choose somewhere you can go where you all can eat something healthy? Because really, if it isn't healthy for you to eat anything at that restaurant, then it isn't healthy for your kids either. This would be a perfect time to teach them about good nutrition, Portion Control, making healthier choices while eating out, etc. Just a thought. I wish I had known what I know now when there was still an opportunity for me to shape my kids' habits!

Can you? Probably. Should you? Probably not. :) it is a commitment to a life change. And bread is really what got us all here in the first place. I think you really have to commit to low carb for life and the thing about carbs is once you start it's hard to stop. For me it would be like playing with fire.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
