Uncomfortable port

Recommended Posts

I feel silly asking this since it seems so minor compared to a lot of the other stuff people are going through. But I am finding that recently the area directly surounding my port has gotten tender, and sometimes sore. I haven't had this throughout, just the normal burning, pulling sensations during the healing process, but suddenly by the late afternoon the area around and over my port is pretty uncomfortable. I am wondering if anyone else has found this.

I am thinking that perhaps it is just more exposed as I have lost weight and that leaning over my desk is sort of pushing on it and irritating it now that there isn't as much "padding" to protect it. I have tried to be more consious of my seat position and leaning into my desk but that hasn't seemed to help much, yet anyway. Any ideas, comments or suggestion? Thanks.

For a long time after banding if I leaned against something or wore pants that were tight against it, it would get really sore. It still happens to me, but not quite as often.

Be very careful with the area around your port. My lap band was put in early January of this year, the port was removed in March because of infection. This is a very tender area.

If it keeps it up for too long, I would mention it to your doctor. Also, I have read a lot of posts where people mentioned once that had lost a significant amount of weight, they actually switched to a low-profile port.

My port is sore on and off. I can't seem to find a reason for it specifically. It has happened more as I've lost weight tho. Whenever I have any plastic surgery done, I will be asking to switch to the low profile port that has been mentioned. It's a lot flatter than the regular one.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
