10 Days Post Op

Recommended Posts

Soon I'll be on my way to working out. But I have no idea where to start, as a new sleever I'm afraid I might push myself to hard or to little. I am meeting with a trainer but I'm curious to find out how my fellow sleevers started their work out routine????

My doc only wanted me walking (as least 1 hour a day) during the 1st month. He released me for weight training at 30 days post-op. But I've never really done any regular weight training. I've lost it all from walking and sticking to my diet.

Congratulations on the new sleeve and welcome to the loser's bench!

When I started working out again, it was more of just getting into the habit of walking and just going to the gym.

The goal is not to be sore or winded after every workout. Get into the habit of going first. I started with walking for about 10 minutes in the morning and going to the gym for about 20 minutes four times a week. I started by just doing 20 minutes of cardio at the lower levels and no weights.

As I got in the habit of going and started seeing results, I enjoyed working out longer and pushed myself a bit more every month and added weights. But I also did not overdo it because I didn't want to burn out.

Now I go 4-5 days a week and do cardio + weights for about one hour total three times a week and cardio only for 45-60 minutes on the days, depending on how I feel. I gave myself a cap of 60 minutes because I'll burn out if I go more than that.

Best of luck to you and continued success!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
