Binge eating 8 days before surgery? Help Please!

Recommended Posts

Hi all -

I'm really not proud of what I'm about to say, but I would really like some advice on what to do next.

I'm getting surgery in 8 days, and I've lost 10 pounds on the pre-op liquid diet. On Wednesday, I broke up with my boyfriend of 2 years. Not to sound cliche and dramatic, but it really broke me. I kind of spiraled into a depressive state and last night I binged ate SO much food. Yesterday morning I had lost a total of 14 pounds but after weighing myself today I had gained four back. Now because I am really heavy, I tend to fluctuate 3-4 pounds from morning to evening anyway. However, I'm so incredibly worried what this is going to do for my surgery.

I have been waiting for this surgery date for over a year and I had been doing SO well on this diet. I'm really unmotivated and I'm scared that even if I stick to the diet every day, and continue to work out for an hour and a half daily it won't be enough.

Has anyone had the surgery cancelled on them?

I'm so upset with myself :(

Don't beat yourself up. just get back on your plan. It's really important to follow your plan so your liver will shrink. Be honest with your surgeon. Better to be upfront about your slip up and face a possible postponement than to wake up in recovery and find the surgery couldn't be performed. I doubt it will be postponed so stay on track from now on. Sorry about the breakup. You can get through this.

I was very inconsistent with the liquid diet. Was more than a little concerned that I'd have to be opened up when I had my sleeve done. Doc told me that was a possibility if my liver was too large. Anyway, went in to surgery, woke up, found out it went perfect. Been absolutely compliant with diet and exercise since surgery in October 8. Life is good. Not telling you to blow off your liquid diet in anyway. I actually wish I had done better. I'm down 47 pounds since surgery. Would've been down even more had I done what I was told. Do your best.

Sorry to hear about your break up, and I understand about slipping up. I'm on day four of my diet and since I do all the cooking for my family, its hard to resist temptation! Yesterday I slipped and ate a few chips then today my family had pizza and I had a small bite of it. The thing of it is to not give up, and just like you I have been on this road for over three years.

The day before my pre op diet, my mom and I went out for my "last real meal" for sushi, which is my favorite food in the entire world. I kinda went off the deep end but I got back on track and didn't beat myself up over it. I'm still under by two pounds for what I'm supposed to be for surgery. Just pick yourself up by your bootstraps and you'll be fine :)

Yea, I say no beating yourself up! Head up....move forward toward your goals. I think the name of the game is going to be figuring out how to move through life's challenges without that constant companion we all know and love and HATE!! You got this...maybe breaking up or taking time off is a good thing now to help you focus your attention on the task at hand...reclaiming your health! :)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
