I'm sorry I had the same problem it's because your not eating, the only advice I was given was to drink as much Water as possibility , also the enemas won't work because there is nothing in there sorry you might need to talk to your surge nor nurse about it if it is really bad :-(

Sprinkle flax seeds on what you eat.

I had surgery a week ago on the 28th. Are you in pain or at least passing gas? It took me three days to pass gas (was burping like crazy though) and five days post op to have a BM if you'd call it that. Yesterday was my first 'real' BM. Only after integrating yogurt and such did anything start to happen for me. If you're concerned or very uncomfortable contact your surgeon and see what they'd recommend.

@@robinsales have you had a bowl moment? I also had my surgery 12/2 and still haven't went yet. My nurse suggested I get some Benefiber. So frustrated right now.

You are going to be "off" in that department for a few weeks or more. I was told to use Miralax or milk of magnesia.

I was started on colace stool softener in the hospital & for 30 days post-op. I had my first BM 2 days after discharge and will they are sometimes small, I go daily. I was also really regular pre-op.

Check with your doctor first, but you could try: stool softeners like colace,Fiber additives like benefiber or miralax, foods like prune juice or teas like Smooth Move.< /p>

It really becomes a matter of trial and error to see what your body responds to. Also drinking as much Water as possible may help.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
