What do you consider an NSAID?

Recommended Posts

I know we are suppose to stop taking NSAID's after surgery. I thought NSAID's included medicine with ibroprofin. I read the label this morning on some sinus medicine and it indicated that aspirin and non-aspirin were NSAID's. I'm confused because I was even given Tylenol in the hospital right after surgery, which is non-aspirin. What is your opinion?

I meant ibuprofen. I can spell better when I'm more awake.

NSAIDs are anti inflammatory drugs, asprin, aleve, and a whole slew of others are on the list. It was one of my biggest worries about surgery was not being able to take them. All sinus medications are not NSAIDs, I take sinus and allergy meds daily but I do not get the kind that are mixed with any kind of pain reliever or other cold remedy meds, for example Aleve Sinus. I just get the straight generic phenylephrine hci 10 mg for my sinuses, it does relieve swelling in the sinuses but not anywhere else in your body so it wouldn't be considered a NSAID.

There are a lot of medications that qualify as NSAIDS. Aleve, which is also called Naprosyn or Naproxen, is one. Aspirin and Ibuprofen are also NSAIDS. Tylenol is NOT an NSAID, so it's safe to take. Over the counter I need to read labels on medications to make sure there are no ingredients that are NSAIDS. Ask your doc what specifically you need to avoid. Good luck to you!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
