So full of post-op questions :) Is it normal not to reach your protein goals 5 days post op?

Who told you that you could have nuts!! That's awesome! My dr will NOT let me have nuts, but he did recommend drinking milk in place of the Protein shake/powder mixes because they make me nauseuas. He recommends Protein Shakes and powders and is a great doctor aside from the not letting me have nuts situation. So unfair.

Tfarr...all of the Protein Shakes were making me very nauseuas and the powders made me vomit. My Dr was recommending the milk as an alternate for me because I can drink milk all day long! He told me the anecdote about the nutritionist who preferred plain old milk to Protein shakes/powders. It was a simply a short story that was very appropriate for my situation. I think that when I get into the next stage of eating (I'm 7 days post op) I can very easily round out my protein with food besides shakes/powders.

I'm sorry. Were you being serious about "nuts". If I read right, the post was referring to the nutritionist (nut). Not food nuts.

If I got it wrong, then my eyes are failing me. If it was sarcasm, then I got a good chuckle.

I was really concerned about reaching Protein goals considering I was only getting in about 15 grams per day. I called the doctor's office and they told me that I should be having at least 4oz of Protein shake 3 times per day along with plenty of Water to stay hydrated. They were more concerned with hydration than Protein. I tried a little yogurt today and a little apple juice along with 4ox of protein twice today. I find myself not being hungry however I make myself drink. I am more thirsty than anything and drink a lot of Water throughout the day.

I am ready to move to the next phase.

I agree with @@Kindle on whey isolate Protein supplements, usually about 25-30 grams per serving.

During the first few weeks I think it is Water, Vitamins, and Protein, in that order. It is really important to stay hydrated. Mix in Greek yogurt and you can up your protein intake. I had to learn to like it, but it is a high protein food.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
