I am type II and was taken off of my diabetes meds during the pre-op diet phase. I am taking nothing now (almost 1 month out of surgery) and my A1C was 5.8 when I went to see the doctor this week. I no longer require meds.

The doctor also was able to cut my blood pressure meds in half prior to surgery.

These are HUGE blessings!!!!

I am new to this. Just had sleeve on Dec. 4th. Still nauseous and gag a lot when drinking the fluids.

Wondering if anyone had this right after surgery and how long it lasts. I still can't get comfortable either

I dont want to be the bearer of bad news...but it depends on how bad of a diabetic you are. I am type 2 and I am insulin dependent. The first 2 weeks after surgery when I was on a liquid diet.....i took NO insulin. When I started adding food back into my diet.....my blood sugars started creeping higher and higher. So it was back to the insulin. Im not using near as much....but I am still using. Good luck in your journey!!!

I was diagnosed with Diabetes in February of this year. When I saw my doctor in August, my A1C had crept up to where I needed to start Metformin. I stopped it just before my sleeve surgery on 9/23. I saw my Endocrinologist again this morning and he had great news. My A1C had gone from 7.1 to 6.0. I am no longer Diabetic! He also told me that my cholesterol has dropped 90 points and my thyroid medicine was reduced due to my weight loss as well! My BP was lower than usual, so that may be the next pill to go. I am hoping to be off of cholesterol and BP medicine in February, I am already off of Diabetes meds and have lowered my thyroid meds. What a great day today!!

I too am a type 2 diabetic. Last A!C was 7.5. Endo dr told me not to take insulin unless my sugar was over 160. I haven't taken any since surgery on Nov 25, 2014.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
