Re the tuna, I found I could tolerate chicken months earlier than I could tolerate tuna. Tuna was just much more dense. I still use the cans of Water pack chicken in Soups, to make chicken salad, and to augment other dishes.

Of course, your experience may well be different.

@@roundisashape I think we had the same surgery date of 11/25 I have my first follow-up appointment tomorrow too... are you sure puree stage starts this soon? I'm more scared my stomach isn't ready. .

VSGAnn, you might well be right about the tuna - I'll probably try it because I'm hardheaded, but pre-op it was giving me heartburn (it's FISH?!?) and my mother always said it set off her "high-assed hernia".

HT, yep, we had the same date! Good luck tomorrow! Every surgeon's plan is inexplicably different. Ours has us on full liquids for a week (I counted it as a week from the day after release, not a week from surgery, since we only got Clear Liquids in the hospital), then 3 weeks of purees, and a month of soft foods. I do plan to start really, really slowly though - I'm nervous about it too.

I noticed something today.

I've been having stomach cramps / spasms whenever I drink anything (I'd say eat anything, but what I'm eating can be sucked through a straw, so...). Anyway, today I noticed that when i stand up while ingesting anything, it's not as bad.

Wonder why that is? And how long it's going to last, because I'm going to look awfully silly standing up eating lunch at work next week, lol.

Hey @@roundisashape I saw my surgeon today everything was good but I have to wait till Tuesday for puree foods :/ oh well day at a time.

Anyhow maybe you have gas have you been walking from time to time? I was told not to use a straw because it cause more gas by swallowing extra air or something. I agree standing always feels better.

Anxious for my surgery on December 18th
I have ordered GENEPRO Protein powder it's 30grams of Protein per tablespoon and can be mixed in anything hot or cold. I'm hoping this will help me as I can add it to just Water to get my fluids plus protein at the same time.

Just a couple more days - hang in there! I got like a tablespoon and a half of Soup I pureed before surgery (green Beans, potatoes, and hamburger - probably not the greatest Healthwise but it was familiar and went down perfectly)

roundisashape So glad you posted this. I needed a laugh this morning. Everyone else thanks for the posts and suggestions. I have been down for the last two days because after things have been going so well, I have started to have the yucks for the last 2 days and been very weak and shaky. Just the thought of putting something in my mouth, even broth, triggers my gag reflex. No pain, just the severe nausea. I am trying to force as much liquid as possible and I think the suggestion of mixing the Protein shakes with ice will help. Thanks again for all the posted suggestions.

@@atl921 and @@haleytrim, I'm so sorry you're both feeling bad! Hopefully one of the further-outs will have a good answer for you. I have been quite fortunate not to have much nausea. Could your doc prescribe something like Zofran to you? Maybe just getting it under control once will help get you on an even keel again. I had a prescription for 30 but apparently they're expensive and the insurance company only lets the pharmacy dole out 6 at a time ::eyeroll::.

Just thought I'd share - I had my 2 week follow up today. Fully dressed, my official loss for these 2 weeks is 20 pounds even (at home, in my undies, it's 22 - but I'm not counting that).

Aside from getting my coat zipped (a pretty huge NSV since I'm so cold my bones hurt now), I achieved my first two weight related goals. The first, achieved while in the hospital, was to fall below 300. My second was to hit 280, because it's officially 50 pounds down from my highest weight ever. That might not belong on a ticker, but it's still fun to track since I started Atkins at 330, dropped to 300 a couple of years ago, and stayed in the same spot until surgery.

Edited to add: And 3 people have already commented on a difference in my face!!!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
