Kind of a silly question......

For those who have already had surgery, what do you consider a "sip"? Teaspoon, Tablespoon...?

That will vary from person to person. It just depends on what you are comfortable with. I take larger sips, but I have read many on here have trouble with even the smallest sip for a few days post-op. I would guess my sips are at least a tablespoon.

That wasn't really that silly of a question! ;)

My doctor has his patients drink an ounce every 15 minutes the next morning after surgery (no liquids the day of at all).

They brought the little plastic medicine cup to pour the Water in and drink.

I never had a problem with drinking. Fortunately I was one of those that could take a normal drink immediately.

So they should start you out at the hospital in tiny amounts and you can increase as tolerated.

I used a shot glass the first few days at home. A shot glass is 1 ounce. My doctor also told us to drink 1 ounce every 15 minutes. It worked out just fine.

Eventually, you will get tired of the shot glass and you will figure out what works for you.

Don't be afraid and try to relax. It will go better that way.

You will be fine! :)

I'm 4 days post op and right now I'm doing a teaspoon at most. Any more than the and it feels like a brick hitting my little stomach. I also use the shot glass method where I make a shot glass last for 4 sips. The way I'm not overdoing it and causing myself unnecessary pain.

Sheena :-)

For me, the first about 4-5 days a medicine cup would take 2-3 sips to get down. Now I am drinking normally. I have to remind myself not to chug, and if I take more than 3 swigs I have to let the last one sit in my mouth while the first couple go down. But I think I am one of the rare ones in that regard.

I consider a sip whatever doesn't hurt to get down. You will have to experiment to see

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
