Hey Veteran's

I'm 2 years out from lap band surgery and have been mostly unsuccessful. I've kept off everything I've lost, but I haven't lost much and I lose it inconsistently. Maybe 6lbs one month and no more for another few months then a couple and so on. It lies with me, not my band. I learned early how to cheat and never really broke any bad habits.

Is there anyone who was unsuccessful early on and kicked into high gear after having had the band a while? I would really love any and all feedback.

Thanks guys.

Hi. I'm just like you. Learned to cheat and now I can't stop. candy is my down fall. I just ate tuna and threw it up. Don't get it, but the candy goes down just FINE!

My Surgeon says that sweets and chips go down easier , because they are more easily digested because they do not need a lot of saliva to start the digestive process. I had my surgery in 4/10..went from 237 to150, but I wanted such a big weight loss, and eve if I knew it was to tight I did not care. Wherever I went I was throwing up, I made a lovely dinner guest. But I caused myself to have another hernia, slowed my esophagus, caused so much damage to it, aspirated , had pneumonia. Had t have it all Fluid taken out, more surgery. I went back to 200 lbs and today I weighted in at 192. They want to see 1 pound a week, that is what they see as success!!! So hang in there!!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
