what if i never reach my sweet spot????

Recommended Posts

So I am on my second fill, and I am begining to think that this surgery was for nothing. All the weight I have lost has not been because of the band. I have done it all on my own. I start getting worried "what if I never reach the "sweet spot"?" is that possible? Dont get me wrong I have lost weight but come on i ve done it all by myself. If i had to pay for this on my own I d be really pissed right now! Someone please tell me.Am i worring for nothing? I hope so. Does the growling stomach ever go away?

Yep, you will get there. I think I've had 6 fills now, the last 2 are when I really felt like I had good restriction. It takes being aware of our bodies, and being active in getting what we think we need.

Hi,

I thought I'd give you my experience with fills.

I've had 2 aggressive fills since surgery 9/06. I have a 4cc band. First fill was 2cc, second about 3 months later, total 2.5cc. I seem to run about every 3 months because I lose fat around my stomach, like everyone. Now it's been about 2 months and I'm thinking I may need another because I can eat more and the weight loss has slowed. So, I guess, that's the way it goes. You just have to keep up with the fills according to how much you can eat and how much you are losing. The sweet spot is an elusive idea that we are always trying to achieve and it's only gonna last a little while till we need a new one.

Hope that may help you. It's a process, but a wonderful one. I'm enjoying being slimmer and continuing to lose.

Good luck,

Jewel

I've only had the 1 fill and it seems like if I eat slow...like 1 hour...I can eat a veggie burger..bun and all. And I find I want to snack more right now. But I have my second fill scheduled for the 30th so I'm hoping I will start to feel some restriction. I mean I don't eat nearly what I used to eat. But I still feel like I'm eating too much. And I'm picking up back habits like not chewing as much as I should. I still try to take small bites...but... I'm afraid I'm going to be hurting if I don't slow it down a little more and chew...chew...chew.

Hang in there...I think we're in the same boat.

My initial weight loss was because of the band, but now, when I lose weight it's because of work I do. Without trying, I usually eat between 1500 and 2000 calories a day, which is fine for maintaining, but I need to eat between 1100 and 1300 to lose. It's still a bit of work to cut out the 200 calories between 1500 and 1300... but when I'm not up to task for that, I'm not gaining, and so I pick up right where I left off. THAT is what the band is doing for me, and that is what my current fill level (sweet spot) does for me.

I hope this helps give you an additional perspective on the band..

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
