I saw my Endocrinologist this past Monday (the 10th). This is just my second time to see him, my other Endo. retired earlier this year. At my first appointment., he was SO supportive of my having RNY. Would do whatever he could to help me thru the process. Last Monday, I really thought for a while that he had another patient's chart from the way he was talking. Saying that RNY was bad, bad, BAD!!! that it wasn't going to help my type 2 diabetes becuase "I'm too well controlled" and it would do nothing for my insulin resistance! Then he turns around and wants me to go on "CholestOff" to lower my LDL cholesterol as it's "too high and he's seeing an upward trend." My LDL has been coming down the last three tests and I'm only two points away from being in the "optimal" range. He also wants me on 5000 IU of vit. D and 2500-5000 mcg of sub-lingual B-12 a day. Both of those tested well into the normal range! He also wants me to double my diabetes medicine that the previous Endo had halved due to a bad reaction I started having from it. The he dictated a diet for me with three meals and three Snacks and told me to eat even if I wasn't hungry! I've spent the week trying to figure out just what the heck is going on with him!

Today I went to the Bariatric Clinic to get my medical clearance for my RNY. (I got it and everything is being sent to Aetna for approval! YIPPEE!!!)

I told the nurse practitioner about the appointment last week and showed her the print out the Endo gave me with all the meds and the diet listed. Needless to say , she is Very puzzled. She even asked me if I thought he had the wrong chart! (he didn't) She has vetoed all of it! Told me that I would be closely monitored and supplemented beyond the norm only if I needed it.

So, was he just trying to discourage me from having RNY? Or is he nuts? One thing I do know, I won't be seeing him again! Luckily, he is leaving the practice at the end of the year and my next appointment isn't until April!

I'd find a new endo doc!!!! Obviously this one either had the wrong chart, or doesn't take to the time to pay attention to what his/her patience say to him from visit to visit.

Either way, I'd be moving on. Listen to your bari nurse.....

@@Mommabird - I agree with @@Dabliss111114 -- he sounds confused - plus the fact that he's leaving the practice means something -- not sure what, but would give me bad vibes! I w/tell you that, once, many moons ago, I visited a new doctor, and I just had weird vibes that something wasn't quite right -- turns out he was soon sanctioned for drug abuse by the state medical society! Not at all saying that's the case here, but if your instinct (and your bari nurse...) give you pause, I'd say listen to them, not confuso-doc :o)

I know why he's leaving. He's been driving around an hour each way to the clinic from Austin to Temple. (About the same distance as I am). He was going to move closer to the clinic but his daughter was accepted to the University of Texas so he wants to stay in Austin. It doesn't excuse the way he acted or what he said. He's made my next appointment with a colleague who he says is "very smart ”. I think I may cancel it and pick another doctor from the list that I won't feel like has the same views as he does. My Endo that retired was wonderful! He's the one who originally suggested RNY.

I went to an orthopedic surgeon because I have a miniscus and she was completely against the surgery. She actually tried to talk me out of it. I just chalked it up to that doctors are just like some family or friends that don't agree with getting it. It's all personal preference I guess. Needless to say don't let nothing get in your way. My surgery is november 24th finally. Good luck to you and stay strong

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
