Lucky # Sevens- July 07 Bandsters

Oh, someone asked about burping...YES, I'm burping more, but some things are gone. For some reason after my first pregnancy, every time I laid on my left side I'd have these little gurgling burps...they are gone now...and it's been 7 1/2 years of that! WAHOO! That was a BIG and NOTICABLE thing for me. I can deal with the burping...I was raised on Miss Manners and can stifle a burp pretty good!

I like the pedometer idea...I think I'll get one next time I'm in "town". (That means Anchorage or Fairbanks...a place that has a regular store.)

IndioGirl, I hear you about the port site. I have my little blanket folded up in b/w me and my desk. I'm afraid I'll bump s'thing. I'm sure that is the incision that will take the longest to heal b/c the port was attached/stitched on the underside.

I am freaking starving right now. I can't wait until my follow-up tomorrow. They're gonna move me to mushies. THANK YOU JESUS!!! I need to chew.

Chim - Have you tried soupy mash potatos.... This worked for me on my last couple of days before mushy stage... Cuz gf - once you hit mushy you are going to want soft - cuz mushy really isn't eating either - Last nite i had 1 cup mashed potatos - 1 cup yellow squash - 1 4 oz hamburger patty chopped real fine ( i turly think the hb patty would be considered soft - but i need real food) i didn't eat this all at once but 5 pm veggies - 7 pm meat & 8 i had the potatos and truely i didn't need them but grandson had order pizza and cuz I didn't want to eat that I have the potatoes - I made him take the pizza's to his room cuz I knew that in the middle of the night i would wake up and eat the toppings..

I have NO self control at night....

I do have 1/2 cup refired Beans for lunch with a tad of cheese on top.. But I sure would like a burritto instead :)

Good Luck !!!

I know for me, it is real hunger. My stomach starts growling and I want to eat. At first, I thought it was weird that I would get full off 2-4 oz., but I'm getting used to that.

I was fine w/the hunger until Sunday night. I seriously wanted to eat whatever wasn't nailed down. My stomach just growled and growled. And I notice each night at about 10pm - 11pm, I get really hungry. I'm still at work during that time, so I try to drink more of my Protein Shake, but man, it doesn't always work! So, I have to just ignore it. I can't eat anything, so...what do you do???

I'm not allowed those, yet. Those are considered mushies...I'm still on full liquids, so it's the Soups, Cream of Wheat, and drumroll....protein shakes. I am so flippin tired of these liquids!!!

I can't wait until tomorrow. MushyLand, here I come.

Marcy, love the tatoo! Hmm did someone mention hot jungle love? I had my first post op this afternoon!! I think my DH is happy again! LOL.

Blue Eyed Baby, love the research idea. If you ever do find anything out, I'd be interested in knowing the link!!!

JeanniePanni, welcome to the Lucky 7's. Where are you from?

Jeanie, how's your afternoon going. I'm so glad I stayed home today. It was exactly what I needed.

Head hunger vs. real hunger? I'm sure mine is real. My stomache is growling very loudly and it feels empty. Of course, its 5:25 right now, and I last ate or drank at 1:00, so that would seem right. But, I think my satiated feeling only lasts about 2 hours.

Sunny, my band sister... it's so nice to see you are doing so well. How's the walking around? I don't think I've won any distance races, but I'm feeling able to walk a lot farther today than on Sat. Good luck tomorrow on your dr. visit.

Good afternoon! Today is post-op day 1 and I'm sore, but feeling ok, the gas buildup in my shoulders is almost gone, it was unconfortable, but after doing a lot of walking it was nice to not have it be so evident!!

Getting pills down is interesting, I didn't mush them into anything so I actually could feel them going down, weird!! But I made it ok.

I've had mostly juices and Water, but today I had some Tomato Soup an it was wonderful.....amazing how the little things taste so good.

Wow, Lynette, a fill already? I was told I wouldn't get one until 6 weeks post-op. Glad it went well....

Welcome to all the new bansters......

Celeste

Chim

I did soupy mash potatoes (make them the same as your cream of wheat) - i just made the instant more like a Soup than mash consistancy.. I used just all skim milk and no Water to bring up the Protein and added 1/2 tespn of butter lots of pepper and salt.

Try it - you will like it and I have beed allowed sf pudding since day one. I don't like Jello so I can't do that.

When I am hungry (real or head) at night I eat a sf double chocolate pudding (last night ate 2) &/or a healthy request fudgecicle. I also have had watermelon since I am on mushy. I haven't craved any bread per se - I have put a puffed cheeto in my mouth and let it disolved - did this in the liquid stage - grandson ate them all so i won't buy any more cuz they were too easy to eat when that head hunger struck.

today menu

Breakfast 1/4 cup eggbeater southwestern style with a tad of cheese (7pt - 60 calories)

Grape Protein Drink 15 pt - 70 calories

Snack - Dannon sf yogurt 5 pt - 60 calories

Lunch 1/2 cup refried Beans with a tad of cheese 7 pt - 130 cal

snack - 5 oz V8 - 1 pt 35 calorie

Dinner - 3 oz catfish baked - yellow squash 1 cup - 1/2 cup mashed taters 400 calories - 26 pt

Snack - 2 pudding cups 120 calorie 6 pt.

875 Calories (approx) - 67 grams of protein...

and may have 80 calorie fudgecicle too - so all in all i am doing ok - I think...

Jeanie that is how my fills will be done also. After surgery the following day I had to go down to xray and drink the barium and I got to watch the barium go through my band. That was kind of cool. They told me doing it this way usually doesn't take as many fills to get you to your 'sweet spot'. :clap2:

Jackie, that is what I was told also! Guess it makes sense! I will find out soon, I guess! I have an appt. on Friday, then 2 weeks more to get a fill! So won't be long!

Sunny, You will soooo love your flooring! Makes you feel so much better! Crap on the money deal though, that sure does put the clinchers to things!

I still chuckle when I think of the Beans on that squash casserole, but honestly, I liked it with the Northern Beans much better than the black beans! But then I love Northern Beans, so that may be the reason! Both were good though! I tell you, I wouldn't have had a clue if you wouldn't have said something!!! Thanks, Friend!!!:)

Campbells has a Soup called Tomato Bisque - I think it's just a little sweeter in taste - It's great to cook pork chop in and pour over white rice.. I know the old way of eating :) (instead of mushroom soup)

Hey, that's another thing I need to check out!!! Holy cow, I think of food now more than ever, lol!!!

Sunny, so sorry about the floor $$$ scam. I honestly don't know how people can sleep with themselves when they do this sort of thing. However, once it's done... you'll love it.

I love my kitchen!!! :clap2::clap2:

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

Good Luck this procedure is well worth it I am down to 249.6 lb please continue with the process..

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
