Lucky # Sevens- July 07 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

I'm so glad all our new bandsters are doing well.:whoo: I'm 6 days post-op. My whines: I get my lump in the throat/pains a few times an hour but less frequent (I think this is gas), I have to take my tylenol on schedule since my largest incision is sore, and I'm itchy. But, I can function no problem and really don't feel that bad.

I wanted to ask about people's post-op food: I am on only Clear Liquids, but can have pre-made Protein Shakes. What brands of Protein shakes are people using? I have been really frustrated about finding a decent selection of any brand. Seems like its chocolate or vanilla. Are there other options??

MM - I don't like Protein Shakes in anything but vanilla...I swear the strawberry smells like vomit to me. I like the EAS low carb "cans". I've been looking for a powder that I can add to Water, but haven't found much past Myoplex (which I like too). So far right now I'm on clear liquids too, but I think tomorrow I get to add color! It's not so bad, I'm actually not hungry at all.

Anyone hear from JenniferAZ? She should be here (Denver) by now and surgery tomorrow.

I'm going out for a walk...later!

Mommamiranda, I too have really only found chocolate and vanilla but I have been jazzing them up. For the chocolate I have been adding coffee ice cubes to make a Starbuck Frappucino rip-off. For the vanilla I bought sugar-free DaVinci Syrup and use that along with a little cinnamon for something different. You can buy those syrups at Wal-mart and they had them in vanilla, hazelnut and caramel. If you can't find those just use a few drops of vanilla extract, or almond extract along with some cinnamon and it really tastes pretty good. I always put ice cubes into the concoctions I make to make it more creamy and to give it more volume. Good luck!;)

I had my pre-op today. My surgery is a week from yesterday! 13 days! I have actually been doing my pre-op diet since Monday. It is so different to just eat protien and veggies. I thought it would be really hard, but it isn't too bad. My body feels different without carbs, though. I didn't like it the first couple of days, but today I am excited about it. Going grocery shopping and getting lots of foods i can eat helped. And I guess diets aren't so formidable when they have an ending date!

I also wanted to ask where I can look at the calendar that has been mentioned on here? I am missing that somehow.

Congrats to everyone recently banded and all the weight loss successes and NSVs! I can't wait to join the ranks!

Marcy, I found EAS whey protien at SAM's Wholesale for $25 for a 6 lb bag. Lots cheeper than GNC. I don't know if you have access to one but I think you can order online.

Just dropping in (after reading 7 pages of posts!) to say hi.

I am having my surgery tomorrow in Denver. I arrived late last night (1am) and my father just landed in Phoenix and then will arrive here on the same flight tonight, around midnight.

I think I have been too busy to be all that nervous, although I didn't sleep well and have been a bit on edge.

I tend to be a stickler for details and I think I was on overdrive yesterday. I had lists for what I needed to bring and what I needed to do ahead of time and must have been looking over those every 10 minutes! My suitecase is so organize, my clothes are all stacked in the order I plan to wear them even!! I think my friends are as ready for me to get this done as I am!

Marcy - I am so glad things seem to be going well for you... I am going to PM you!

Good luck to everyone who is up today. And for those who's dates are coming up, don't worry, it will be here sooner than you know. The pre-op diet will all be worth it!

I am off to chance to my next hotel and try to find the cool new Croc's flip flops. I have been eyeing them for months and have not been able to find them anywhere (and I travel a lot). Just last night I realized they are from Boulder Co, so I am on a mission to find them today.

I hope everyone has a great day... I will check in tonight.

Jennifer

Jen, good luck finding your flip flops, and on your surgery tomorrow. Let us know how you're doing!!

onmyway, chimboree puts out the calendar. I believe she just updated on Monday, so check back a couple of pages. You'll have to hit on a link and it will open the calendar for you. You're on for the 24th!!

mommamirana, the slimfast optima shakes are good in the Cappuccino flavor. I buy Body Fortress powder at Walmart (chocolate and vanilla) and my unlavored is from Jay Robb (jayrobb.com.)

dmtjet, you're home. You feeling better now?? Hope your doing well.

Our big news is we're planning a Lucky 7 Bandaversary crusie next year for those who would love to meet your fellow supporters from the group. We thought about doing it in August, 08 so everyone that gets banded in July this year will have had their 1 year anniversary with their band. So we figured we'd get together on (or around) 08/08/08, on a cruise to the Carribean, or somewhere. If it sounds like you'd be interested, PM miss Dini and let her know. She making a list of people, and we have two others checking on pricing deals, etc. with the cruise lines.

I'm excited about it, to actually meet face to face with the people who have been the most supportive people in my journey!!!

I downloaded a new pic today of myself for the avatar. Let's see how it looks.

OK, I have a question for all of you.

Has anyone received a card from their surgeon that they can take with them when the go out to eat? This card states that you have had gastric surgery and your stomach capacity is less than 6 ozs and to please allow the patient to order off the childrens/senior menu?

I'm going ask my DR when I go next Tuesday, just wanted to see if anyone has received one.

I did get a card from my doctor yesterday when I left the hospital. It not only states that, but all the information you might want on a medical ID Bracelet too. I am going to have mine laminated and keep in my wallet.

I haven't got one yet, but my nutritionist told me that some doctor's will issue them to allow you to order of children's and senior menus. I'm definitely asking my doc for one. But not all restaurants are obliged to accept them.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
