I think that I feel too good

Recommended Posts

I'm 2 days post lap band procedure, thought that I would be feeling more physical differences. Very little discomfort, stomach is a little sore. Upper abdomen is mildly distended with tenderness at incision sites. No nausea at all! I have been taking narcotic pain medication every 4 hours, just because. I feel like the lack of significant pain may be due to the regional block that anesthesiologist placed prior to procedure, supposed to last 72 hours. I'm doing really well with getting my fluids in, exceeding 64 ounces a day in 4-6 ounce servings (low sodium broths, s/f Jello, tea and 2 Protein shakes), sipping on sugar free juice/ flavored water throughout the day. Kind of concerned because I feel like I could consume so much more, no sensation of satiety. Therefore, I'm having to keep a close eye on calories. I guess I don't have much swelling around my stoma. One more day to go on this phase of liquid diet. Don't get me wrong I'm not complaining about feeling good, just feel like it's a set up, that after the regional block wears off things might change. But so far things are going much better than I expected.

Enjoy it! Maybe you are one of the lucky ones. I did not feel so terrible after surgery also but was sure to rest and give my body time to heal. I let other people take care of things for once!

I feel pretty good as well. Very little pain, just some gas. But I definitely feel satiety. I believe there are 3ccs in my band to start with. I have zero desire to eat. I have made myself drink my shakes today. I am 4 days post op, but I had no regional block, just general anesthesia.

After that first overnight in the hospital, with crazy pain from being blown up like a balloon, I felt fine. No pain nor discomfort.

Other than- I felt disappointed in myself that it wasn't a day surgery for me.

Your lack of satiety is normal. After the 2nd or 3rd fill, you'll start feeling restriction & satiety

My band was installed empty.

That methodology may have changed since I was banded. If so, I could be wrong about when, post-surg - you'll feel restriction & satiety

Mine is empty as well. The resident originally told me there would be 2ccs but found out it's empty. I feel satisfied after a half cup but probably from post op swelling. First fill 12/3

I am 4 days post op. I am surprised as well at how good I feel. I haven't taken any narcotics since my first day home. I've just taken some Tylenol here and there. The gas pain in my shoulders has been the worst for me, but it is slowly fading. My incisions aren't really painful unless I bump them on something, just sore abdominal muscles like I've done a million sit-ups. I slept on my couch first 2 nights because I was afraid I couldn't get back out of my bed....lol

I came home with some swelling from the IV fluids and I weighed more than I did pre op. Finally getting that Fluid off. Down to my preop weight today.

They tell me there are 3ccs in my band. I can see in the photo they gave me that it's not empty, but they did say "approximately 3ccs" so it could be a little less.

How long does it take you guys to drink a shake? It takes me awhile. Before I get to the end, my head gets the "I'm not hungry" signal. I'm not going to stress over it. I only got 3 shakes in today (72g protein) and like 1/4cup of broth…and lot's of Water and crystal light of course.

I was banded last month and I felt great. I was one of the lucky ones. No nausea at all. I understand how you feel about the saiety. But I think once you get further into the full liquids diet you will start to feel fuller quick. Hang in there and feel blessed that you are doing so well. My first full is coming up at the beginning of December and I can hardly wait. Hope everything continues to go so well for you

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
