Scared to death.....

Recommended Posts

I was really scared but the thought of carrying around this weight overrode my fear. I kept coming to the boards and saw very few complications. I had my worries until the day of surgery. But I went through with it!im so happy I did!

I am going thru the same thing. My fear is dying. I say this as I sit and eat my Jello, 7 days pre-op. My husband told me he was scared I was going to die too. SO there we sat last night staring into space with eyes the size of saucers. Focus on the positive. If they were worried about your heart then you would NOT be cleared! They don't want Malpractice suit!

I plan on asking for a MAJOR sedative as soon as I get to the Hospital. The weight WILL kill us. With all that said I am currently crapping my size 22 pants EVEYDAY! But I am going to try not to chicken out!

I had every one of those fears lol are we related???? Anyway, you are perfectly normal to have these thoughts. I have a heart murmur and HTN. I survived mostly pain free! Sore muscles is all around incisions.

I too felt surgery didn't work, but I am a slow loser. I've lost 26 pounds since 9/15. Good luck. You'll do great!!!

Oh I asked my husband at least 5 times prior to surgery if I was going to die. I think the first things said was "I didn't die!"

I had the same thoughts. I did my will before my surgery, just in case. My husband was also worried. I was sleeved on Monday 12/1. Everything went very well. I came home yesterday and I'm doing OK. I walked my daughter to the bus this morning. Then I took a nap. Coughing and sneezing is really painful, but so far I'm not needing the pain killers. I'm saving them.

I'm just as scared, but more about failing then not waking up. Trust your Doctors know your conditions and if they feel you can tolerate this surgery, then you can. When ever I get myself worked up over anything, I just have to remind myself that literally, 1000's of people have done this before me and they are ok-so chances are, I will be too. It helps me not let the nerves take over!

Good luck

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
