Hello Hello.....Congrats to all of you who have moved forward with your surgeries this past week. I am 3 days and counting - 24th. Starting to get a bit scared. Can anyone tell me about this GAS situation - is there anything that we can do in advance to prevent it - or is this the result of the gas they place in us during surgery? Why all the nausea and vomiting - if nothing is going in? I am a newbie, self -pay, foreign country - please respond when able. Thanks

I think my nausea and vomiting was from the anesthesia. My doctor was concerned that I may have scar tissue from past hernia repair, so I was given a higher dose of anesthesia. I've been put to sleep numerous times and that was the first time I've ever had an reaction like that. I was scared at first, until the doctor came through and told me it wasn't abnormal. The gas on the other hand.....OOOOWWWWEEEEE....was like punishment. I hear some people say they asked the doctor before hand to make sure to release the gas. Wish I had known that!!

Hello Hello - It's Wed, not Monday - I'm back. First - THANK YOU for your input, feedback, sharing your stories - I know that what i read and adhered to is largely due to what I read from you all!!!!

Surgery 1/24; It went great and it has been relatively smooth sailing through day 5 (today). I followed everyone's advice and walked and as such, had no gas pains. The pain I felt was manageable and by day 2 i felt basic soreness (still do a bit) but nothing that i needed meds for. Drain out before i went home on day 3. I did have some sudden heavy oozing yesterday, but it has subsided - no issues. Rested alot between surgery and part of day 4. Feeling really good today. Went back to work (remotely). I am sipping away and plan by day 7 to start walks!

BUT - today, I thought about food a couple of times. I think i read that is normal. Not hungry, not feeling deprived, just thought about food. I stayed with a friend until today. Maybe it was just because I was back in my digs and i am used to eating here? Anyway, pushed through it. I did make a Protein Shake (chocolate) and sipped slowly. All seems well.

I am not weighing yet - haven't weighed since a week before surgery (when i began my 1 week preop diet). Let's see where I land after the swelling, soreness subside.

I am watching for your results!

hi...im the same had bypass on 28/1...today (5th day post) I feel alot better..my stomach not so "tight" feeling? The day before..every sip i took...it gurgled in my dtomach then BURP! I guess that the norm..all my cuts are healing lovely..only uncomfy one for first 24hrs was the drainage tube..so pleased when that was painlessly taken out. I do have meds to take (pre op) and will see my gp in 4 wks to start weaning me off my very strong morphine. Im making sure as you all should..take your post meds! So important! 3rd day post op.it took all day to drink and take meds due to the discomfort..that does alleviate ....today i swallowed them with no problem. I have to inject Clexane For the next 2 wks just for safety measures for post clots. Im so pleased ive been "re plumbed"..

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
