Had my final meeting with surgeon.

Recommended Posts

I had my final meeting with my surgeon and she is sending my stuff off for final approval. I should be having surgery in 4 to 5 weeks. I did think it was odd that my doc said she didn't think I could get to goal weight of 210 with lapband. I weigh 437. She said I'd probably weigh 300. I'm going to work damn hard to prove her wrong.

You can do anything you put your mind to. You can read success stories on this site of men and women who weighed over 400 that have lost hundreds. Lap-band is slower but is well worth it. you can do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good Luck.

I think your surgeon is right. I had my surgery in February of this year and have only lost about 45 lbs. Lap band is SLOW. My doctor warned me. I wish I had listened and had the sleeve instead. Good Luck, tho!

Matt, congratulations on getting through the hoops -- exciting! I love my band and am so happy with my weight loss. I was only 250 going in to the process but there are lots of people who have lost hundreds with their bands. Check out the thread Banders #6 -- it's a great place for support from people who have had a lot of success. I wish I was tech-savy enough to connect you here with some great guys who have done so well. That's what I did when I was researching -- found the people who are really successful and read their posts. Jim1967, B52, Carolina Girl -- like I said, check out that Banders thread. And that way you can avoid any nay-sayers. Don't need that kind of pre-surgery crap!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
