Help! Developed peripheral neuro palsy !

Recommended Posts

After i woke up from sugery my foot, ankle and part of my calf was numb. Three weeks later,it still is and i don't know what to do. I called my pcp and surgeon still no help. I'm beginning to lose hope. I'm losing weight but at what cost? Walking? Any one went or is going through this?

Please share your insight.

Hi, I just saw your post. How are you feeling? My lower abdomen was numb after surgery but it's been 4 weeks and a little better now.

Hey and thanks for commenting. My foot is still numb and i had to get a brace. This has been an emotional rollercoaster for me because of it. Honestly i rather my mid be numb than my foot because i can't run or exercise the way i want to. I haven't been back to work because i need a brace and a cane for support. It just sucks.

Did they say if it was caused from the surgery? Were you referred to a Neurologist? I think you definitely need more answers since you didn't have this issue before surgery. I had really bad back pain after surgery and my Doctor kind of brushed it off. It has subsided for the most part now but I think insurance pays a hefty amount to these Surgeons that the follow-up care needs to be detailed. Don't be afraid to advocate for yourself even if you have to call everyday. I wonder about positioning during your surgery and long term prognosis. Did they do a MRI of your back?

Have you seen a specialist like a neurologist for further evaluation? If not, I would recommend it since you are not getting any answers from your PCP and surgeon.

Well i have been given the run around with from my surgeon's office and finally got an appointment for a follow-up so i can get a referral for the neurologist. I recently found out that i have scoliosis so that could be a contributing factor to how i was laying on the table. Thanks a bunch for the support you two , i felt really alone in this.

Hope this link helps, I had a friend who had the same thing happen, and she is now almost a year out of surgery with little improvement, but mostly do to doctors shuffling her from specialist to specialist. You need to see an orthopedist, he would be best able to help you.

Thanks you two and @@coastalchick that article gave me hope. I've really been trying to walk as much as i can so my muscles strengthen up. I'm starting to wiggle my toes some and i got a foot drop brace for support. I'm just craving to wear heels and can't because i will fall. Hopefully my case is like that guys and it takes 45 days for it to spontaneously get better.

@ BypassKrista I've got my fingers crossed for you. Sometimes in surgeries like this the vagus nerve is inervated accidentally which can cause issues of a unpredictable nature. I'm a nurse, so I have seen this happen. I will keep you in my prayers, and I'm hoping things get better for you soon.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
