Having a hard time!!

Recommended Posts

Hi All! It's been a while since I've been on. I don't know if it was a feeling of thinking I could do it myself or what..but it's been 6 months since being banded and I've only lost 39lbs. Am I being too hard on myself? I still eat too fast and don't chew enough, and I pay the price. I only PB'd once but the other times it just hurts like hell til it passes. I don't know why I don't learn my lesson. I've gone down 2 sizes and 1 bra size so I know it working, I just feel bummed. The only meats I can eat without getting stuck is chop meat (like burgers) or filet mignon because it's so soft. I can eat fish too. But what else can I eat. I do lots of bean salads, eggs, but I'm just bored and I don't want to start eating junk food because it goes down easily. And I definitely don't drink enough Water. Sorry if I'm talking your ears off. I need all the help I can get. Any ideas? Thank you for listening.

Well it sounds like you have good restriction you just need to chew more and slow down. I know how easy it is to get discouraged but that's what we are here for to help each toher during those times. As for food getting boring, welcome to the club, I think food gets boring for everyone banded or not at some point in their adult life. Only the really yummy things that are bad for us really appeal. It is normal sadly to go thru this. I just try and remind myself that food is fuel for my body, it is not a source of entertainment. I know it's hard sometimes, belive me I know. As for what you can eat, you can eat anything! OK almost anything. Check out recipe websites for some new ideas!

39 lbs in 6 months is GREAT, Lana! Keep that up and you'll be at 80 lbs in a year, which is a terrific rate of loss. You're learning to live and eat with the band, and as you're aware it takes practice and patience. So don't get bummed! Take a deep breath and hang around the food forum for ideas. You're doing wonderfully!!

I pretty much eat everything, just in smaller amounts. Don't worry, you are doing great in the w/l department! You don't want to lose too fast, it's not healthy!

Sounds like you have a tough time with solid Protein for sure. I would move to softer Proteins like the filet mignon. Yogurts, cottage cheese, tuna salad, baked potatoes. You may not stay as full as you would if you were on solid protein but it may help you with your diet.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
