Nervous and need encouragement!

Recommended Posts

Hey guys it's my first post, I had lap band in 2009 and did not lose much weight and gave up, now I am scheduled for gastric sleeve December 5th. I am a nervous wreck about the complications. Could people give me some insight on the complications or a leak and what should I expect with the sleeve and mainly any experiences or any info would be great from someone who has been there done that. The same surgeon who did my band is doing my sleeve. Thanks in advance.

If your looking for those types of answers, you might want to post on the post-op side.

But welcome! I'm scheduled for November 13th.

My surgery date is Dec 3rd. My surgeon said leaks are rare. They check for that before you leave the operating room. The key is to get all the Protein in a day that you will need after. Have you started experimenting with different brands yet?

No I have not experimented with any Protein yet. I just got my surgery date today. I wasn't expecting it to be so quick. Haha. But I have anxiety issues anyway. So I always think the worst.

Thank you Susan. The good thing is my wife is having the sleeve 2 weeks after me so we can support each other. But that still don't stop the nerves

I understand the nerves surgery is never ever fun or a walk in the park.

But I look at it as a few weeks of discomfort for a lifetime of better health and well being.

I am getting a little nervous. Will be having gastric sleeve most likely in Feb 2014. I am going thru the preparations with nutrition, etc. When will I know I've prepared sufficiently? Thanks.

Taking the classes I was required to take helped me understand the whole process better and reassured me it was the right thing for me.

Also being able to lose the 10% the ins co wanted was helpful. I know I can do this. Reading a ton of Info was also very helpful. Hope this helps.

I know this sounds repetitive but please talk to your surgeon and the social worker about your concerns. They are legit but you need to follow the professionals for the best sound advice and answer your concerns honestly and factually. I wish you well on your new journey!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
