Should I be worried?

Recommended Posts

Hello! I am 5 weeks post off, and I am wondering am I able to eat too much? I feel that my portion side is ok. Most times when I finish eating I am full, even stuffed. But my meal is still about a fist or more. I don't eat bread, but when I hear people describe their meals I am eating more. Example for dinner I had a small potatoe and a 2 tablespoons of chicken salad added. I was definitely full after. I couldn't add anything more. I didn't drink with my meal. But then I see people with the same portion size meal, and they say "I had 3 bites and I was done." I wonder am I missing my full signal? I don't want to go back to where I was. I am still loosing, but I am a bit worried. I welcome all feedback......

Well, I don't think we should be eating until we are so full we feel stuffed. I try to eat slow enough that I feel my restriction kick in. At that point I now realize I also feel satisfied. I stop. I have gone over that and I get that horrible pain in my chest. I know now to avoid that!

I agree with @@kimpossible

Eat your Protein first! However, if you are still hungry after that, have a vegetable. Carbs, like potatoes should be the last thing consumed. I'm not an ideal WLS patient, but I try to follow this rule. Also, kudos for no drinking with your meal. I downloaded a timer to make sure I wait 45 minutes after eating to drink. It also reminds me to eat if it's been more than 3 hours. It's called Bariatric Timer.

Measure your food intake then. I use 4 oz ramekins to put my food in, and if I became full or its empty, I stop eating. I do this so I don't overeat, because I know I would be tempted otherwise. That's how I became overweight in the first place ;) Good luck!

5 weeks post op -- able to eat too much?

@@aloudwhisper

there is an old saying on the board "just because you can doesn't mean you should"

in other words if you are able to eat "kindof" alot - don't do it!!

KNOCK IT OFF :D

you should be measuring all your food - using amounts that your NUT has given you

1/4 cup - 1/2 cup etc

don't eat any more!

per my doc - "eat til you are full, then stop 2 bites earlier!!!!"

you and tummy are only 5 weeks old

don't overdue

you are still at the stage where you must be very nice to your tummy :)

you work with your sleeve and the sleeve will work/for with you :)

i can see B) the determination in your eyes that you will do great

keep up the great job :)

good luck

Thanks everyone for your feedback. I am measuring my food. I can have potatoes, because I am just coming off the soft food recommendation. I am not stuffing myself, when I am done I don't feel over done, just done. I am not eating til the point that I am in pain, but I can eat more than two bites to be full. I can't say that I felt that long. I will stay that I don't get the full signal as fast as I should. I think that has a lot to do with transitioning from band to sleeve.

I will also say that this was not easy for me to share, but I want to get help now. I am not out of control or anything. I haven't gained, but I do have questions.

I appreciate everyone that took the time not to just read the comments, but to respond. I am readjusting. I won't say going back to the basics, cause I am still there :) I am doing Protein first, but I haven't been drinking my Protein much these last days. I guess I will continue to work on doing better. I will get the measuring tools out and not just do it all in my mind.

I am doing Protein first. The issue is, I am coming officially into the solids and I was encouraged to not have a lot of green veggies with bulk. I have been against that cause I know carbs are the devil for me. But I will figure it out. But measure, measure and measure again. In my mind I feel that I can eye ball it, but I guess I can't. Lol!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
