Banding in Toronto

Recommended Posts

Hi: Dr. Yau at the TLBC. They have wonderful support team and he was one of the original pioneers in bringing the band to Canada. Fill nurses, nutritionists, conference call support for out of towners. They are second to none. Doddie

HI, my 1st post here -- I am going to be banded by Dr. Laz Klein, end of July 2007. He works out of Humber Hospital (400 & Finch) which has just be made a "center of excellence for Bariatric Surgery" -- come with extra funding from the Government -- there was an article in The Star a few weeks back. Unfortunately OHIP still does not cover Band surgery - only bypass - so it is sell pay $17,000 but covers all follow-up and all fills ... Hope this info helps some ....

HI: the more competition the better it is for all of us. Everyone has to think their doctore is the best. Could you let us know the after care your clinic provides. Doddie

Ok 2 questions already...that was like in 2 minutes wow! Ok number one....how do I get that chart thing at the bottom of my time so I can track the progess? The other is about the "fills"....the plan for me to to have Dr. Yau. I am seeing additonal costs for fills? Is that really the case after the surgery you have to pay more??

the cost at TLBC includes "fills for life" (includes de-fills too, of course). Of course that means you have to physically go to TLBC for the fills....which is why some end up paying (ie. if they live far far away from TO and chose not to go back for aftercare).

Ohh ok...I was still reading just now and I was not really seeing anything more about that. I am pretty lucky to only live like 45-50 min away.

Hi No he did not. He has always been conistantly the same weight. He is 74 (I am 63) and supported me when I said I needed an additional tool to help control my weight. Thanks, but right now, I am stuck at the same weight. I take aqua fit 3 times a week and eat around 1500 cals a day so think I might need a tighter fill. Will ask doctor this thursday. I notice you have lost 85 pounds. How did you know when you needed another fill or if you should just up your exercise or reduce calories??? At the moment, I am trying to focus on eating small bits but not too sure where to go from there. Doddie

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
