Away I go (pound by pound)

Recommended Posts

I started my journey in June 2014. 90 days of medically supervised weight loss. about a month of waiting for approval. 3.5 weeks of liquid diet. and one surgery date FINALLY scheduled.

I had a super hard afternoon on Tuesday. I'm so worried that I am some how going to mess this up that I was teary all afternoon.

Being heavy most of my teen and adult life...I feel like I am really good at failing at diets and plans and systems for weight loss. I know in my head that Lap Band can help me...I just need to do the work. I have a very supportive husband and family. But I am the hardest on myself (for most things).

I figured I would start here with you guys for some support from those who know. :-)

So day one of the liquid diet almost done. Off to the store for some pudding and yogurt reinforcements.

:)

Tracey

You can do it! I think we've all felt exactly what you are feeling. I remember being afraid that I couldn't do the liquid diet and then, once I was well into that and realized I was going to be able to survive that, my thoughts turned to the post-op period and worrying if I would be the only person on the planet who couldn't lose weight even with weight loss surgery. My surgery was ALMOST 10 months ago. I met my goal in late August and I'm down a total of 135 lbs. If I can do it, anyone can! And you WILL! Good luck to you!

Hi there, I was so worn down from my epic dieting attempts -- one after the other after the other for years and years and years -- that I, too, worried that somehow it might not work for me. Happy to say that my band is working beautifully. I am so thrilled! Not only that, but I don't find it difficult. Unlike the pre-op diet, which can be very trying. A lot of stuff can come up during a cleanse -- all those feelings. Be gentle with yourself and know that you are starting a wonderful new chapter in your life. I am not perfect but most of the time I make the right choices, I've increased my exercise and I have found great success. You will, too! Oh, one thing about the pre-op, for me it was the first time that I knew the weight I was losing was weight that was never coming back.

Congrats on your upcoming surgery. I had those feelings too but, with each Protein Shake, pudding, popsicle, sip of broth it got easier. It is a mind issue we feel like we NEED to eat. Find something else to focus on maybe a book. I am in college and worked ahead on my assignment's. I am 5 months post op and 78 pounds lighter. It was worth it and you are too. Think about how you will experience things with your new body. Best wishes for a wonderful new life.

I also began in June of this year, and my surgery date is November 12th. It still hasn't really sunk in that my insurance company actually approved my surgery, I was expecting a denial......I am starting to get a little nervous now.

I do think it's a process to ease up on ourselves, we are often our own harshest ctitics. The support you have in your family is a real blessing, and try to remember that you deserve to be happy, you ARE worth it.

 Nicole

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
